@SampoKasurinen has put together an expression map for Cinematic Studio Strings:
Hello,
Since Dorico 4 introduced more convenient tools for working with playback, I decided to try again working with Cinematic Studio Strings (combined with noteperformer). I created a new expression map that uses mostly custom playing techniques to control CSS. My philosophy is to separate notation and playback control to their own layers, since getting the best result from CSS will always include some manual work (and manual selection of patches). Cinematic studio strings is controlled with …
@Julian_C has posted a playback template for EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra (EWQLSO) Gold, which you can find here:
Here is a zip file containing a playback template for EWQLSO Gold and the expression and percussion maps it uses. I think mostly I have used Carl Hinde’s expression maps.
This playback template references all the pitched insttruments in the library but only a small fraction of the unpitched percussion patches
I am pretty sure that these are working as I have used them successfully in a couple of projects already

@jamesdarcy is working on support for Spitfire Audio’s Studio Strings:
Hi All
I have attempted to use a number of expression maps available on this forum but to my mind they have all been a little incomplete for my needs. They are certainly a good start but they lack a number of key features:
Mappings to existing “standard” dorico Playback Techniques
Creation of new playback techniques to suit some of the less-common sounds available in the library (air, hollow, quadruple double tongue, blended muted sections, super sul tasto, Sul C and Sul G, brushed stroked, …

Berlin Symphonic Strings
@andhy has shared an updated expression map for this library:
I recently updated my BSS expression maps to take account of the addition of Portato for ViI, Va and Vc in the most recent OT update. I hope they can be useful to other forum members who have this library.

Orchestral Tools Berlin Muted Brass
@andhy has created expression maps for Orchestral Tools Berlin Muted Brass:
Here is my first stab at expression maps for the recently released SINE version of Orchestral Tools Berlin Muted Brass.
Berlin Muted Brass.zip (10.6 KB)
Altogether the SINE version of BMB features 21 muted brass instruments and I have divided them into 6 separate shared expression maps (A to F) according to the articulations they include. The applicable expression map is shown in the following table.

NotePerformer with individual outputs
@David_Tee has produced a playback template for NotePerformer that uses multiple instances of the plug-in to allow individual output control and use of insert effects etc. in Dorico’s mixer, at the expense of much greater CPU usage:
Hi all,
I’m attaching a Playback Template that creates separate outputs / mixer channels for all NotePerformer instruments that show up in Dorico’s Project Templates.
To do this without overloading the system, all the endpoints have the Instrument and Master reverb settings set to 0.
Reverb and other effects can then be applied in the Dorico Mixer.
A couple of important caveats:
Setting up NotePerformer this way uses a lot more CPU (over 200% instead of under 100%) but about the same RAM. …

Metropolis Ark 0 tutti orchestra expansion
@andhy has shared this expression map:
For the benefit of anyone who has the new Metropolis Ark 0 library here is a simple expression map for the Tutti Orchestra. All except the Sustains (Natural) are velocity sensitive so I’ve reflected that in the expression map. Please note that I have not defined note lengths for staccato because everyone has their own preference but it’s an easy adjustment to make. Have fun.

8dio Century Brass
@charleswtjr has created an expression map for 8dio’s Century Brass:
Attached are the expression maps used for Dorico to work properly with 8dio’s Century Brass. I love this library and hope this helps anyone who also wishes to use this library with Dorico. Attached are a quick little READ ME that specifies the order in which you have to load the Key switches within the interface. Since it is not a preloaded interface, you MUST to customize it accordingly in-order for it to work. Fortunately, you will be able to save it as the default, so you will not have to lo…
EastWest Hollywood Brass
@charleswtjr has created expression maps for EastWest’s Hollywood Brass in the Opus plug-in:
So I decided to just go ahead and update all the expression maps the Hollywood Brass library now in the Opus interface. There is a READ ME page in there that talks about which sounds to manually load. There aren’t many, and most deal with either mutes, trills, or Rips. If you don’t care about those, feel free to skip the added mappings. The trypical articulations should work perfectly fine.
Happy writing! There will be another post shortly that will feature the Hollywood Woodwinds expression ma…

EastWest Hollywood Woodwind
@charleswtjr has created expression maps for EastWest’s Hollywood Woodwind in the Opus plug-in:
There are the expression maps for EWQL Hollywood Woodwinds Expression maps, specifically for Opus. There is a readme page in the .zip file that explains some manual mapping that needs to be done. Some of these mappings are crucial for woodwind writing (Trills, slurred runs etc.)
, so I suggest mapping them once, and saving the instrument. Any future instances after the initial save with load them automatically and you will not have to load them manually again. Cheers, and happy writing!

Hi,
I made a playback template for solo and ensemble woodwinds, brass, strings and some percussion for Miroslav Philharmonic 1 using basic playing techniques loaded per instrument into MP1 instances and switched by MIDI channel.
MP1_Dorico_Template.zip (164.7 KB)
Let me know if someone want to use it or creates an improved version. It can also be linked to the Dorico Expression map website if wanted.
I used MP1 since some of the MP2 instruments are even less consistent. Let me know if somebo…
Pianoteq’s harp
Courtesy of @MarcLarcher :
Dear fellow Doricians,
Here’s an expression map I created to use PianoTeq’s harp quite better than just with the Default expression map. I use it with the Concert Harp Recording with reverb off on my playback template.
It triggers Pedal (just as the default one) as a totally muffled strings sound — the opposite of a piano pedal, if you like. I know that there’s a Harp à la piano preset, with pedal behaving just like the piano one, but it was not my goal here.
It also triggers muffled strings …

Audio Imperia Solo
Tony Baker (@TBB ) has created an expression map for Audio Imperial Solo strings:
As I noted here: Using Spitfire Solo Strings for string quartet , I use Dorico as a composition tool and I’ve been looking at string libraries that provide a “fair” audio rendition suitable for musicians to get an idea what a piece might sound like.
I picked up the Audio Imperia Solo library a few months ago. It provides 11 solo orchestral instruments and 2 voices for a very reasonable price. And, IMHO, the instruments sound very good. The Kontakt interface is quite nice too, and easy to w…
Spitfire Solo Strings UACC
Tony Baker (@TBB ) has modified the expression maps for Spitfire Solo Strings, as described here:
I use Dorico as a composition tool. As part of that, I just need to be able to produce an audio file straight out of Dorico to accompany the score that’s “good enough” to illustrate to musicians how the piece should sound. In that spirit, I’ve tried various libraries, the latest being Spitfire Solo Strings. (I know that it’s not intended to be used for quartet, but I don’t need it to sound truly authentic.)
Anyway, in case someone else has similar needs, I’ve attached an expression map and …
Berlin Woodwinds Additional Instruments
Contributed by @andhy :
I recently installed the SINE version of Berlin Woodwinds Additional Instruments and created expression maps for the four instruments featured. I attach them here in case any forum member is interested. No doubt others have preferred settings but it may save some time. Next I’m creating expression maps for BWW Soloist 1 and 2 (SINE) which I’ve just added.
