Cubase 14 also fails to start. I have made a clean install of Win 11 Pro and a minimal install of Cubase 14 Pro - apart from Chrome browser nothing else.
The same problem persists since Cubase 13.0.41. Version 13.0.21 and earlier still work.
I found another post suggesting that it might be a BIOS issue and that turning hyperthreading off would “solve” the problem. Indeed with my configuration this worked, however, this is a workaround not a fix. I am assuming that for Cubase users hyperthreading is a performance feature that normally should be on?
There have been pro and con arguments for HT and Cubase going back some ways, but these days it’s not really an issue. We leave HT on all the time on our machines with no negative effects.
I read in another post that this is an issue/bug with too many cores in dual cpu setups. So it is not HT per se, but disabling HT halves the number of (virtual) cores. Steinberg said it will be fixed (eventually?)
Hi, thanks for your post. This is showing the age of the Cubase code as is manifest in that the system32 kernel panics in a 64 bit system. The installation process also shows that Cubase has been around for a long time. Not that there is anything is wrong with age per se, but in the software industry the rate of change is quite fast, and being able to fully function in a dual processor system with 2x18 cores is not really a lot to ask. Fortunately Cubase is basically a good DAW with many advantages with new versions being released on a regular basis. Maybe its time for Steinberg to also upgrade the code base to match the realities of much improved CPUs etc. It is 2024 after all… Go Steinberg!
I installed new Win 10 OS and Nuendo 13 on a Dell t7910 dual cpu server yesterday. Got the kernelbase.dll serious problem when trying to start daw. Disabled hyperthreading and it now runs. ???
