VST connect is becoming a routine tool for me in post production.
i’m really missing to be able to :
1- have multiple listeners (not “performers”) to have director and producer listening to the sound editing in process (with video for all) .
2- a talkback button on the performer side so that when he’s considered as a “listener” and not a “performer” and his mic can be mute until he press “talkback” to interact. This way “listener” could have proper speaker setup and not headphones.
Multiple performers would be nice I guess… but I never had a need for it. In post it’s always an actor after the other for me. I wonder if people really do advanced ADR with VST connect ? But then having one actor (performer) and one listener (director) That I would need as I had multiple sessions with everyone remote. I had to put actor with performer and director with zoom (not ideal as zoom and google have algorythms to mute background noises (AMB… MX etc are shut off)
amazing news !
Something i’m going through with directors and producers is that they are not on the “technical” side. So much that some of them gets very frustrated just for the login part of vst connect. Directors also are used to work with technicians and almost cultivate and atitude of “i don’t do technic” because they know if they start producers are going to ask them more to cut costs
Wich is something I have to guide them through with patience in diplomacy
I mean it’s managable but the session never starts with a pleasant approche it’s all things to solve (headphones, setup, ) and once you’r there figuring where the login is but don’t clic on it clic on the “ID” button (my users rarely find the ID button fast, and ID… doesn’t mean a thing for them really. Also the "connection logo looking like a wifi logo ))) is not clear for all in my experience. I would rather have words like : “connect” And because you have to guide them through phone these logos are not working best for me.
you guys helped already by beeing able on the STUDIO side to be able to set most of performer’s parameter but that’s only once that connection is established.
I would see an option to select at start before vst connect’s performer main window open with :
1/“easy connection”
2/“main window.”
where 1/ would only be a window poping up on the performer side asking :
do you have a steinberg login [yes] [no]
[yes] = new window asking for > input [steinberg login] + [psw] & 2 buttons labeled [login] [go back]
[no] = new window asking for > input [your name] + [session’s key] & 2 buttons labeled [login] [go back]
once connection is established then we go to main window like it is now.
if connection is lost, the “easy connection” window pop’s up again.
(it happen that i’m loosing connection during my sessions (internet or maybe nuendo crashes etc)
wonderful.
I’ve had issue I could not solve yesterday for a session.
I’ll try to call as many friends as i can to do some tests and see what is going on sometimes.
but yeah login could already be a good thing. thx.
hi I like to use VST CONNECT not only to record the remote voice artist but also connect the producer who will listen and talk back as well.
As I understand, there are some feature requests being developed.
What is the current status ?
in case anyone cares: I could set up a way to have a producer attending a session. The downside is that it needs double bandwidth, since I get the 3rd person via an additional DISCORD/GOOGLE-MEET Meeeting.
I basically use VB-Audio MATRIX to route audio back and forth but it works so far in my test environment.
I will test it soon with voice actors and my producer.
