I’m having an issue with Folder Group Channels and volume automation.
I’ve attached a screenshot showing the settings I’m using for the Folder Group Channel, along with a video showing the procedure I follow. When I try to select the Volume parameter for automation, it doesn’t get selected and the volume automation lane is not shown.
Could this be a bug, or am I missing something in the way Folder Group Channels are supposed to work?
On my end, the ‘Volume’ automation doesn’t show because it is already open on the right of the main track header as the ‘default’ automation lane. The ‘normal’ group tracks are displayed and behaving the same way, actually.
Maybe you’ll have to add the R and W buttons in the group folder track header, as they weren’t displayed by default. But at the end, the whole thing works as expected, here.
Could you say how you’ve set the folder options in the preferences? Do you have them set the same way I do in the image I attached to the initial post?
Yep, I indeed had the Folder with Group Channel Show Automation option activated, sorry. But when unticking it, I get this, after having selected without issue the Volume parameter in the first automation lane dropdown list :
I tried disabling and then re-enabling the group channel track. The volume parameter becomes available again, but all the automation applied to the track is lost. So, it is possible that the project file is partially corrupted.
What remains a mystery is what did I do to “break” the various group channel tracks in the project I’m working on?
The folder lane itself is the volume automation lane for the first parameter. Normally volume.
The right-click menu on a track contains additional options for group-folder tracks and their data.
Unfortunately it looks like plenty of recent new features in Cubase suffer this. It works first, then you save a few more (new) versions and the feature is broken.
First from my head are modulations which I’m not using anymore because of that.
I think that I saw a topic yesterday about Sampler not being able to recognize samples locations too. But I think that this one is about moving the project to different location.
If I do this on the “corrupted” track, the volume line doesn’t appear.
Also, I don’t want folder group channels to behave like standard group tracks otherwise I’d have too many lines on the screen, leading to a lot of clutter. I want them to behave like normal folders but with all the functionality of a group track. In other words, when the folder group channel is closed, I don’t want the volume automation line to show, I want the folder’s contents to be displayed instead.
Thanks for the info. I’ll keep an eye out for this behavior. I usually save a new version every time I reopen the project to work on it. Could that be what’s causing this annoying bug?
