Global edits of x / y offsets in Chord symbols?

Problem: The space between the slash (/) and pitch names is too wide by default to my taste.

Solution right now: Open Engraving Options > Edit Chord Defaults, add the specific chord, adjust a couple glyphs’ x offsets, and that SINGLE chord is fixed.

New problem: Having to do this for all possible chord combinations while maintaining a template is unfeasible.

Solution I’m looking for: Is it possible to make these little edits work globally? It sure feels like the functionality is right there under the hood somewhere.

Thank you!

The Edit Chord Symbol Component dialog will allow you to adjust the components of chords (e.g. the slash) and it will apply everywhere that there is a slash.

It’s accessed from the dialog you have already been using.

Thanks Daniel. I’d forgotten about that dialog.

I did use it to edit the slash’s X offset, but the effect doesn’t seem to show up anywhere. The component dialog box does remember my adjustment, it just doesn’t seem to have any effect.

Thanks your help.

Have you removed all your previously edit chords from the list? Does that help? (Save it first!)

Thank you, Daniel—I did some further experimenting with save/re-adding/adjusting the slash component.

It appears that editing the slash component’s X offset does globally apply to all default chords. Great!

However, it seems to ‘cap’ at a certain value, which is probably for the best. I am able to get chord symbols tighter than is available through the automatic global offset of the slash component, but that’s okay.

It turns out my chord symbols are just too big anyway. Choosing a new font and making them smaller mostly fixed this anyway.

Thanks for helping me to understand Dorico better.

I made a doricolib file to give you more control of the slash appearance and posted it here in this thread. You might want to see if tweaking it would help accomplish what you want.
