GA is easier than HALion for drums. I only use Groove Agent for drums, not HALion. A synthesis engine belongs in a modern drum machine.
I think it would be a great improvement. Different types of synthesis with all the editing power already included in GA. The option to mix drum synth and sample layers for one sound.
And then of course you’ve got all the pattern and midi beat options in the one instrument.
The beat agent could be a creative drum monster. Great for electro genres and totally original sounds within your beats.
And like Halion (which is a sound design monster). If you don’t want to use one type of synthesis..just don’t.
Kontakt, I stopped using that years back when it got so left behind Halion.
Different types of synthesis included is exactly what Kontakt needs to stay relevant.
half of modern production is done with synth drums, the 808 is a synth drum.
All the amenities for synth drum production are there - filter envelope, volume envelope, etc - just need a variety of sound oscillators as layers.
I don’t really care either way, but I wouldn’t be against it, and it could be useful.
Groove Agent i’m pretty sure is developed on an internal development version of Halion anyway.
I would like all the kits and patterns from Groove Agent 1 & 2 please. Those were such useful for plugins for quickly sketching ideas.
Hat’s off to your expertise everyone.
I am old school Cubase since 93. I never used drum VSTs, though I owned a few. Early MIDI grooves bored me then. I discovered GA5 a month or more ago and have been absorbing it in every detail, 10,000 words of notes so far. It’s so impressive and it will def be my Goto as soon as I have the muscle memory.
I can bring a newbie perspective as I have been struggling through it recently.
It has the power, it has the sounds, but intuitive it is not.
There are three languages at work:
1] Plain English.
2] A form of half-English-half-Vulcan, which is Groove Agent Speak.
3] Another half alient Variant MediaBay Speak
Example: Q: When is a bit of an instrument (plain English) is an instrument?
Answer: In GA speak a bit of an instrument is an Instrument - example shank.
Try Finding a Pattern in Media Bay proper (CUBASE) . I find only two presets.
The manual speaks of two types of pads, but there are three. Instrument pads (which are bits of Plain English instruments) Pattern Pads, which are both Patterns and MIDI depending on the GA Button or panel view, and Style Pads which are a different animal from Pattern Pads, because they cannot be dragged into Cubase, or used in Beat Agent, whereas Pattern Pads can.
Newbies have their Cubase-dragging hijacked by this “Gotcha”, until it dawns on them, that there are three types of pads not two and it is impossible to visually tell which is which of these two Pattern Pad types one is looking at directly (AFAIK) .
Click and hang…nebies…
I call these experiences Gotchas, they are mostly not bugs as such, just cul-de-sacs, information white outs, counter-intuitive booby traps.
Groove Agent is full of them and IMO this is the main reason why GA5 is not reaching it’s audience.
I would love to see the GUI and guidance issues addressed and the full product integrated properly with Cubase’s Drum Editor functions.
It’s easy to solve this problem stated above, it’s about thinking about the human perception of the GUI. On the pad some visual marker - perhaps I for Intrument Pad, P for Pattern, S for Styles Pad. Rewrite the manual.
I hope this stunning app succeeds

i think you can drag from style pages too
I’ve got the Groove agent one kits. I can’t remember from where but they’re there in my library. Maybe search Google for Groove agent kits or library.
There were no Groove agent one patterns. The patterns were the beat designer pre-sets.
No inside knowledge here, but I’m guessing Steinberg might not want to “improve” Groove Agent in ways that make Halion and Backbone less relevant and therefore sell less copies of them.
Hello , More Rudiments , With more control , Please !!
One thing I’d like is to have in the pattern player is to have the “quantize” knob have a negative and a positive value so one could make a pattern “looser”
