I know this issue has been mentioned before, as in this thread, so I’m sorry to bring it up again, but I was unable to find a solution there! Whatever I tried didn’t work.
HALion just seems to not load any instruments. Here a few screenshots.
I did notice the file “FCP_SMT_027_HSO_Presets_01.vstsound” was in ~/Downloads/Steinberg/OSX/HALion Symphonic Orchestra/ and not, as the thread suggests it should be, in /Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content/VST Sound. I tried to move it there, it didn’t work, I undid it.
Please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here, so that we can take a look and see if Dorico and the audio engine are reporting any problems with the availability of the sound content.
how did you try to move the contents files? Did you try with the Steinberg Library Manager or manually yourself via Finder?
The contents files definitely don’t belong in your Downloads folder, that’s not good.
If the Steinberg Library Manager can’t move the files, go to the System Preferences and give the Steinberg Library Manager full disk access.
Turns out, all projects in which I was having no sound were projects in which I had selected “Sketch” (Treble Staff or Bass staff) as an instrument. Oddly, Dorico doesn’t automatically load instruments for these.
Once I had manually loaded them, all was fine.
