Halion4 bundled with Cubase 6.1 ?

I would also rather like bug fixes and enhanced features (FXP/FXB saving, better time stretch algorithms, comping tool, windows management enhancements, automatic filter of vstpresets for the inspector ‘Program change’ field, and so on…). But I understand that it is necessary to have an easy sounds source for new buyers, this to have a set of instantly usable sounds once Cubase is installed.

So, IMO, the best solution would be a cutdown version of Halion Sonic easily upgradable for someting like 150 € on line, as HSO was. This one, that came with C5 wasn’t bad and I finally Ibought it, even if the UI isn’t up to date : the sounds are rather good and suits my need for, at least, single orchestral instrument. I would do the same thing for Halion Sonic, even a 16 bits version, if it is worth this price : presently, it is too expensive, even if I’m tempted.

That would be better than Halion One which I don’t use because, even if there are some nice sounds with it, the editing features are ridiculous compared to something like Dimension Pro bundled with Sonar PE. It would also increase Halion Sonic sells. I don’t need a full sampler as I already have one and I don’t see any host bundled with a true sampler, by the way…

The way I look at this. I’m going to need to see something really revolutionary in order to invest in Halion 4. Halion 3 has been such a disappointment that I was forced to buy Kontakt–which is the standard for so many extraordinary vst instruments. I have enough synth-style sounds to blow a hole in the stratosphere. I really don’t know how Halion 4 will contain any marked improvement that would justify the investment at this point.

The one thing I am looking for is an upgrade to Halion Symphonic. I like the sounds, but hate the interface and search functions. It’s a mess.

I’m installing Kontakt 4 as we speak. I never even considered Halion, not for a second.

I think the guy above actually has a great idea. Bundle the full Halion sampler with Cubase with a limited sound set and maybe in that Steinberg way, make it so that you have to use Halion sounds from them. Sell the sounds to anyone who’s interested and/or an extended license to use other content with it, dunno.

With Kontakt less than $400 and having excellent sounds, why would anyone choose Halion?

+1
I totally agree with every point:

  1. I really wanted to see a HAlion 4 with innovative features as well as building on the work of others, for example, combining E-MU’s loop bending with Kontakt’s scripting)

  2. Yes, I’ve given up and already bought Kontakt so now there’s no way I’m paying for a seperate HALion 4. There are no capabilities that any other sampling product could possibly offer that would make me spend money on it (well; there are a few things, but I don’t want to get banned here …)

  3. Synth sounds? I already had more than enough before HALion was even invented! I would need a datacentre to just classify the amount of synth sounds currently at my disposal. Synth sounds (as commonly used to fill blank space on magazine cover discs) in isolation are essentially useless, and that is true regardless of whether they come in the form of gratis “computer tech muzak mag” coasters or as paid-for VSTi soundbanks.

Exactly.

Exactly. HALionOne becomes HALionCUBE or some such *#@%$, you get a decent selection of Motif sounds as part of Cubase 6, and you can download the rest at a cost. That way the wife doesn’t catch you bringing the stuff into the house either.

Quotes from the HSO design meeting …

Engineer #1: Make sure you alphabetize the instruments so there is some logical order.

Engineer #2: EH? how is that logical. Don’t you think organizing by sets like combi, xFade etc… would make it easier to find the kind your looking for? And like if I have to set two separate filters on every single program one at a time with no way to multi-select, won’t that make it a long and tedious effort to load up a program?

Engineer #1: Look, I’ve been doing this for 200 years. STFU… Also, make sure you make the window really tiny, so that you can’t read the entire patch name. That’s VERY important. It draws the users attention to the field!

Engineer #2: Wow, I have to admit I would have never thought of it that way in a thousand years … but your the boss I guess.

etc… etc…

Either that or they just a have a beer bash and do the interface drunk off their butts.

A cut-down version of Halion Sonic within Cubase would be a great selling point as well…especially the synth engine…

Somewhere between that and “it looks really goot on VIndows 95!”.

ROFL

Engineer #1: Remember those people on the user forums are always moaning that we waste our time giving them shiny new things. So we have to make this one really ugly. We have to listen to the customers.

By the way, there are some really cool things with HSO. And, it sounds great. Expression Maps are an awesome idea. It’s just a total nuisance to use. I fear that HSO is destined for the Steinberg Software/Hardware graveyard though. Their track record for apps like this is pretty grim. I hope not though. Let’s start the new year with some positive vibes. HSO 2 will be the best rompler app EVER!!!

agreed. I use it a lot. It would be a shame if it fell by the wayside.

I careless about Halion.Kontakt is the industry standard.I would prefer an improved HalionOne.
Steinberg separate vsts or hardware were always a failure.I 've seen it happening again and again. They don’t support their products in the long run and they are pricey.
Cubendo is fine. And i love Wavelab.

err… that’s kind of a contradiction. Actually, it’s not kind of one, it is the definition of a contradiction. We should link this to Websters dictionary.

Yep, as I posted previously, I agree with this 100%

A contradiction, really ? HALion is a sampler and HALionONE is a rompler.A virtual box with presets and no editing.
They are totally different instruments.I use a Motif and i know many of HalionOne’s presets are the same.Yamaha boys just made a small gift to Steinbergers.

I tried using that HalionOne in production few times. Not a good idea.
It only makes a good ad: “based on Motif samples”.
some patches have notes sticking, others some notes not playing. weird, and still not fixed, nor update available.

Even though it is “based on motif” i have Motif-ES6 anyway, because it sounds very different.
but, can’t use motif es6 much because of the cubase midi timing problem to external instruments.

bump or lump!

I think this would be a great idea, better in fact than my previous request for a simple chromatic sampling instrument like Ableton’s Simpler. I teach Cubase, Logic and Ableton and Cubase is the only platform without a proper sampler (although Groove Agent One can be used as a workaround but it’s far from satisfactory) and this means a necessity to refer students to third party instruments (more cost). IMO you should not have to buy a separate sampler, it should come with the full application. HALion One is a great rompler for the bread and butter sounds but creative producers need to be able to import their own samples and manipulate them as they wish.

Is this the Halion blog?

I just want a sampler I can drag and drop to.

And the included Halion One (in cubase 5) isn’t even 64 bit…
