agreed. i was burnt by their Midex 8 hardware, and the total lack of driver support following it up. Wont be touching Steinberg hardware again. i see them release a new audio interface and just laugh and think of the sukkers that are gonna buy it and get stiffed in 6 months. Burnt.
Live and learn. Its a shame that Steinberg doesnt learn.
Steinberg already apologized for the MIDEX debacle and said it wasn’t their fault because another manufacturer was involved.
Because now they (steinys’) are being paid to support hardware made by Yamaha you won’t get any more problems as future OS’s will be reasonably supported into the future.
Nevermind all this bundled Halion Loopmash nonsense, I am all for this kind of extra stuff being included for those of us who can only stretch to CB, but better stuff is out there and when I buy Cubase I am looking for a world class audio/midi recording and editing tool, and if thats not priority 1 then it’s Logic and Protools9 that are going to become the go to software. So Cubase 6 without the useless bloat, that’s my hope.
VST means that any “bloat” can be programmed by 3rd party parties, and are likely paid for by Yamaha anyway so it’s likely that the budget for the core application is set by Steinberg and it’s only Yamaha who can package Steinberg software outside of OEM.
Lol …
I actually Agree on the point where Cubase should have an Included Sampler Player
Groove agent One was the big step toward integrating A Drum sampler
however it’s only good for use with One shot samples and doesn’t really work as a sample player Like HALion or Kontakt or even EXS24
The real question is … “why the hell didn’t steinberg already include a Sampler in Cubase 5 ???”
Because they already know that there was one included with Logic …
I think this is also the reason why Logic is currently rated Nr 1 Daw by lots of Mags and Websites
(Let’s face it … that is not because of the lack in Multi-platform support in Logic)
and the most stupidest thing of all is that EXS24 isn’t really packed with loads of futures
it just seems to be integrated pretty danm well
So If steinberg will include a Basic HALion 4 ‘Lite’ Sampler there will be a big chance that they will move up from there Nr 2 Position because you actually get what has been missing for so long
(and I am sure that Logic will fail to stay Nr 1 because of there lack of Multi-platform support )
I have a Midex. Steinberg fully explained the issues involved with making a 64bit driver. You should read it. I wasn’t happy not to use my Midex but I can’t see any point in ignoring the plausible explanation from Steiny. What good is it to demand explanations from a company if only to ignor ones you don’t like and pretend you’ve gotten burnt.
I think Steiny has clearly learned not to do development deals with companies that could go under.
I think it makes perfect sense for Steinberg to include some kind of sampler with Cubase. It’s called “competition.” If all the other DAW’s are doing it, it’s almost incumbent for Steiny to do it.
BTW – have you ever noticed how so many peripheral items are designed to work with just 4 DAW’s, namely:
Cubase/Nuendo
Logic
Pro Tools
You never see integration with Ableton, or Reason, or Sonar, or Digital Performer, etc. The reason is obvious: those DAW’s don’t enjoy anywhere near the sales figures of the BIG 4
Halion 4 will not be bundled (for free) with Cubase 6. There is too much development involved in such a product to give it away for free. Not “so long” ago Halion 1 was the first VST sampler and the market share was 100%. The gap between Halion 3 and Halion 4 is long, but it takes allot of development (several years) to write a complete new “beast” of a program like Halion 4.
With Cubase 6 there are allot of things that will be very interesting
Hello, Chris. Thank you for your comment on Cubase 6. I am sure it will contain many new and innovative features just like the previous releases did and I am looking forward to it.
Could you give any updates on the progress of Hallion 4 as there’s been a long time since the last entry in Hallion blog, most of it being dedicated to HallionSonic?
it will still take some time regarding Halion 4. It is thrue that Halion Sonic in mentioned allot in the Halion 4 blog, but please don’t forget, that what is in Halion Sonic, is also in Halion 4. This way we can tell you allot of some of the main features including (important) background information like the synth engine. That Halion 4 can play samples is to common to tell about it I think
Some more information will come with the Halion 4 blog. At the moment there are still some collegues who are enjoying the holidays
Well I use Terratec X-table on Kontakt 4 Player, so it’s always updated as basic as the sounds are they were made for the old AXON system so are good for writing but I am tempted with HALion Sonic.
There are bound to be audio optimizations and UI improvements with the next 6.x version so while I may not buy up immediately there will come a time I am sure as OS compatibility is the key determinant of my purchases.
I like Reaper and have used it. But I don’t think it will ever be a “player.” Why? Industry payola, in its various forms. Yamaha, Apple and Avid wield enormous clout and power and I believe can effectively keep a competitive small player like Reaper in its niche
I’m just speaking generally, so don’t take it as gospel, but I don’t recall seeing Cakewalk on the usual list of “supported DAWs” when it comes to various pieces of hardware. For example, both the new Nucleus and Ambient 2802 controllers come with templates for, again, Cubase/Nuendo, Logic, and Pro Tools, and all the rest must rely on using MMC, various mapping schemes, or MCU protocols. It may not necessarily mean that these are the “top” sellers, it may actually mean that it’s just a business decision the manufacturers have made – maybe even secret “pressures” or agreements that exist between companies
