The “Rudimental drumming” notation based on Swiss rudiments requires, that e.g. a 9-stroke-roll is written with a leading 1/4 note, followed by a ghost-note of 1/4 having a tremolo, that depicts the instruction to the drummer, to execute 8 times 1/32 beat, which together with the ending stroke onto the next beat, results in a 9-stroke-roll.
The first picture shows the current state in Dorico with the above approach by colorizing the 1/8 pause in white; but - I found no feature so far, to hide the flag of the remaining 1/8 note (entry stroke into the 9-stroke-roll), to at least visually represent the target notation.
The second picture illustrates the approach chosen in MuseScore 4.4.0 using Bravura 1.4, while there hiding the beam and the stem as portions of the two combined 1/8 notes.
Thank you Derrek, indeed, I had a 1/4 note and struggled then by adding a grace note or ghost note of another 1/4 having a tremolo. In the notation menu there I found only grace notes to be placed “before” the real 1/4. I mean, one could add that pre-grace-note to the new 1/8 note in the next measure; but kind of struggled there too. Will try it again. Thank you.
Another approach: placing a 1/4 note and using a grace not before that 1/4 with the intention, to move the grace-note “after” the 1/4 note; Engraving dialogue does not allow to do so (which makes kind of sense).
Another approach: having the 1/4 note and applying the 1/4 grace-note “before” the 1/8 note in the new bar is place “after” the bar line, and cannot be moved “before” the bar line either.
For a slightly different but kind of similar topic I found a solution to move the 1/8 ghost/grace note “before” the bar line, by setting the property accordingly (“Vorschlag vor Taktstrich”) and then do some adjustments in the engraving mode.
The notation convention says, that the beginning of the 5-stroke-roll with a flam-beginning has to start 1/8 before the final stroke, which ends on “1” (here the 1/4 note on the right hand, above the line) in the next bar.
