How to analyse Cubase crash dumps on Windows

Thanks for the response, yea I made sure to update the drivers and even did a full uninstall-reinstall. They’re up to date. This is the same .dmp file from the picture:

Cubase 13.0.55 64bit 2025.8.18 4.39.03.797-freezedump.dmp (1.5 MB)

You already have a duplicate thread on this where you’ve already been given all this information. Could you please just refer to this thread so we don’t fork the subject matter?

It’s just easier to keep everything in a single thread and other can see the history.

Thanks!

See my answer in the other thread (thanks @Thor.HOG )

Wow you saved my day. My Cubase kept crashing, and your post helped me to understand what plugin was faulty. Thank you so much

This is a massively helpful post/thread! Thank you, @fese and everyone else who is contributing! When I downloaded WinDbg (January 2026, Win 11 Pro, 24H2) it automatically became the program to open Cubase crash dump files. So all I had to do was click on the file and WinDbg runs. Then I click the analyze -v hyperlink.

My problem turned out to be the Focusrite driver, as it was for @Andrew_Zabolotny . I updated to the latest driver (for my 18i8 gen2) and Focusrite Control software and Cubase is no longer hanging when I close it.

Many thanks again, everyone! :folded_hands:

It is worth noting that for recent versions, Cubase shows where exactly the program crashed in the Safe Mode startup dialog the next time you start Cubase, right at the top where it says “The application was terminated with an error while executing the following file”. If the following line e.g. shows a path to a VST plugin, the crash was caused by that plugin and you need to update it or check with the vendor.

See this example from another thread here:

So for most cases, it is actually not necessary to install WinDbg anymore.

Thanks Fese I used your tips extensively to research for the issues I am facing.
Wanted to add if anyone has Windows issues another useful tool is AppCrashView.exe.
Digs in the logs, writes reports in html.
