How to Create This Bar?

I’m trying to create this kind of bar. It doesn’t have any rests or right barline. I’ve tried putting quarter notes in the bar and then hiding them, but the rests don’t go away. All I’m needing for this specific bar is to show the key and time signatures. Hiding the rests and the right barline is my current issue. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

We’ll need a bit more context. What I see in your screenshot is not a bar but rather a cautionay time sig and key sig at the end of a system. If that is what you want, create a system break at the bar where these changes occur:

The showing of the three natural symbols can be achieved by going to Engraving options > Key signatures and setting Cancellation naturals at changes of key sig to Traditional.

If this is not what you’re after, please share a bit more (e.g. a more elaborate screenshot of the original you’re trying to replicate).

It’s at the end of a piece (well, rather the first flow). It’s just reminding the player that where they’re jumping back to it’s going to be in 2/2 and in the first key they played. This piece I’m entering in Dorico is Second Suite in F for Military Band by Gustav Holst if that helps any.

I know I accidentally circled over it, but there is a segno and a D.C. right before the cautionary bar. I didn’t know if you noticed that or not. That’s why I’m bringing it up.

The following worked for me.

  1. Add a bar to the end of the flow
  2. Move the DC back to where you want it
  3. Change the barline to a double barline
  4. Add the key sig and time sig
  5. Select the final measure rest and do Edit > Delete Bars

You can’t do cautionaries at the end of a flow, so you will have to fake this with something like a 2/2 pickup bar of one 16th, in the new key sig, and then hide the rest and adjust in Engrave mode.

I typed what’s in your signpost, and my bar didn’t change sadly.

No, the Signpost does not show the exact Popover syntax. (I’d recommend reading up on how the syntax works.) I typed 2/2,0.125

That’s 2/2 with an eighth of a beat as a pickup.

And also: select the last rest before the cautionnary KS/TS and apply “ends voice”, otherwise the deleted measure will be back each time you reopen the file!

@charles_piano I’m not seeing that here.

I’ll have to do that. Now, I also should’ve said this, but I forgot to mention it. I’m in the score. Dorico is not allowing me to hide rests for whatever reason. Is it possible to hide rests in the score? So far your method is working. The only things that are left is to hide the 16th rest and the right barline.

Take a look at my post above. This method seems to work with less fiddling.

How do I do that? I’m still somewhat fairly new to Dorico. Came from Finale late last year.

No, it doesn’t work. I’ve tried it.

Well, as you can see, it works for me! Maybe your starting point looks a little different.

In Dorico Pro, are users able to hide rests for the score?

There is a solution in a related thread

Indeed. I am surprised! This is a know issue with this workaround, which has been discussed in some threads… And I just tried to reproduce it, and I still have this problem of re-appearing measure:

Why doesn’t it happen with your file?! I must have missed something.

I figured it out! I don’t think you needed to make a 2/2 bar with a single 16th rests. I just clicked the rest and then went up to Edit > Remove rests. After that, I went to the notation settings and chose no barline for the end of the current flow I’m working on. Everything looks good!
