How to report a Cubasis 3 problem

Hi David_Sosnowski,

Please check if the MIDI drum file contains program changes, leading to the instrument preset change.

Thanks,
Lars

Cubasis 3.2 problem Dec.29th 2020 .MOV
95.5 MB

1. Summary/Title
Real Time Mixdown Auv3 Distortion with 14.3

2. Description
When I try and freeze or mixdown a track with an Auv3 instrument the result is heavily distorted/garbled with lots of buzzing. I have tried with 6 different Auv3 instruments, however the built in sounds (ie. microsonic) still work well. Creating a mixdown or freezing the track without real time mixdown enabled works perfectly, this only happens when I turn the setting on. This started with iOS 14.3.

3. Expected Results
Real time mixdown should produce the same audio as I heard when playing back the track regularly.

4. Actual Results
The track sounds like a transformer ate my mix and puked it back up.

5. Environment
iPad Pro 12.9 3rd Gen running 14.3
iPhone 12 Pro running 14.3
iPad Pro 11 2nd Gen running 14.3

Summary/Title
Can’t erase MIDI events(CC, ProgramChange, and so on)

Description

  1. select MIDI events
  2. touch “erase” button
  3. MIDI events still remain

Environment
cubasis3.2
iphone XS(ios14.2), ipad air 2(iPadOS13.4.1)

1. Summary/Title
When dragging audio file to a different spot it starts moving by itself indefinitely & its also crashing and closing the app every 5mins.

2. Description
When I want to drag any audio/midi recorded left or right it will move by itself in the direction I start moving it and won’t stop unless I close the app fully. If I move it to the right it will keep going in that direction indefinitely and when I move it left it goes beyond zero out of sight.

3. Expected Results
I expect the file to only move when my finger is engaged with the screen.

4. Actual Results
The file keeps moving after I release my finger.

5. Environment
Cubasis 3.2, IPad Pro 11” 2020 14.3 & zoom H6 audio interface

1. Summary/Title
Mixdown creates a wav-file of much longer duration than selected with the markers.

2. Description
When I create a mixdown in a project (44.1khz sample rate), the wav file is twice as long as it should be according to the selection with the markers.
Workaround: when the interface is plugged off (cubasis will set the project sample rate to 48khz since the iPad is not flexible with it), the mixdown works fine, but the wave file will be in 48khz.

3. Expected Results
The mixdown is made of the selected area.

4. Actual Results
the file is much longer (silence added)

5. Environment
iPad Mini 5, iPadOS 14.3., Cubasis 3.2, Focusrite Scarlett Interface

Thanks a lot!

Hi valf1sch,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your report.

Summary/Title
Mixdown creates a wav-file of much longer duration than selected with the markers.

Please give the following steps a try.

  • Load the project you’ve been working on
  • Set the L/R locators accordingly to the start and end of the project length
  • Go to “Media/Mixdown” and tap “Create Mixdown”
  • In the Mixdown popup: Make sure to enable “Mixdown between locators” only
  • Tap “Start Mixdown”

Hope that helps!

Best wishes,
Lars

Hi rem_maysick,

Thanks for your message.

Summary/Title

Can’t erase MIDI events(CC, ProgramChange, and so on)

  1. select MIDI events
  2. touch “erase” button
  3. MIDI events still remain

Normally, the “Erase” button should work to delete unwanted events and more.

Did you notice, that the editors come with their own tools bar?
Did you use the tools, located in the MIDI Editor tools bar?

Thanks,
Lars

Hi Lars
Thank you very much for the quick response!
You were perfectly right, enabling ‘Mixdown between locators’ only leads to a correct mixdown! Obviously the effect tail is the issue, altough i only used EQ, no endless reverb/delay.

Is that a bug, or how do I get a Mixdown including effect tail?

It’s still strange though that the same thing is working properly (including effect tail) when the project sample rate is changed to 48khz.

Best regards & thanks a lot
valentin

update:
I have just understood that the option “include effect tail” is only about the actual tail, disabling it will still include effects in the mixdown, like EQ in my case. Sorry for the confusion!
It doesnt’ explain the different behaviour when the sample rate is altered, but that’s maybe a different story. I’ve read about iPads and their particular - or let’s say opportunistic - behaviour concerning audio sample rates.
Thanks a lot in any case!
v.

ps: i’m not sure if that’s the right spot to put these findings, but they may be helpful for others concerned by that tricky sample rate story:

iPads seem to have a locked audio sample rate, i’ve read about a couple of reasons why this might be the case, but i ended up just accepting. I prefer 44.1khz over the native 48khz (iPad mini 5), luckily you have the joice to change that as soon as a device is connected that supports different sample rates (Focusrite Scarlett in my case). So as long as the audio interface is connected, i can create/record/edit/export cubasis projects in my preferred 44.1khz, so far so good.
Something I always found annoying was, that the interface had to be connected permanently to let you work properly on a project in 44.1khz, even for things that did’t require the hardware (such as editing, bouncing tracks, etc). Plugging it off instantly sets the project sample rate to the iPad-dictated 48khz. No chance to bounce wav’s in your favourite sample rate any more, for example.

Workaround: Plugging in a headphone set with integrated microphone to the jack-connector makes the iPad change it’s mind! The system audio sample rate automatically switches to 44.1khz and lets you work on your cubasis project in this sample rate with no problem. Of course this is only helpful for people with ipads that have a jack connector and that are preferring 44.1khz, but there might be a few.

Please find more information about this topic in our dedicated Revised sample rating handling article.

Glad to read that our tipp has helped to solve the issue.

If Cubasis detects audio, when the “Effect tail” option is enabled, it can lead to huge mixdown files. We suggest to use the recommended “Mixdown between locators” option instead.

Thanks again!

Hi Lars
I’m having a very frustrating issue with my IK Multimedia Mix Box plug ins not loading. Sometimes they would load but as of today I have not been able to use mix box. I am currently recording an entire production (as an experiment) on the iPad to see how feasible it is to use the IPad as a studio engine. This is not a good start. Thanks to you or anyone who can help.

Please give the following steps a try:

  • Load an empty project
  • Close all running apps, including Cubasis
  • Shut down the iPad

Please let me know, if this helps to solve the problem!

Thanks

Hi,
I am writing from Japan.

When using AUV3 synths and effects, noise occurs during playback.

1-2. cubasis crashes frequently.

  1. Noise during playback when using AUV3 synths and effects.

  2. I don’t want noise to occur during playback.
I want it to work stably.

  3. I’ve tried everything, but the noise occurs in all Audiounits I’ve installed.

There is a way to freeze MIDI tracks, but that method does not work for effects inserted into audio tracks.

As for the cubasis crashing issue, I can’t pinpoint the cause as it occurs under a variety of circumstances.
In some cases, the crashes did not save the previous action.

I tried loading an empty project and shutting down the iPad, but that didn’t help the situation.

I used to get the noise on my iPhone SE 2nd generation, but I’m glad to see that it seems to have improved after the recent update.

  1. ipad pro 10.5. ipad os 14.3

I would like to be able to complete my music production on my iPad, and I find cubasis to be a very important tool in fulfilling that wish.

Please fix the problem.

Thank you very much.

If possible, please share a project with us, which allows us to reproduce the noise and crashing problems.

Alongside, a short video clip that shows the steps and the issues, might be helpful too.

Hi Lars.

Thanks for replying.

I tried to record a video to reproduce the problem.
But to my surprise when I played back the recorded data, the problem was all fixed.
There was no more noise in either the audio data or the MIDI data.

I recreated the same situation several times, and it is still working stably.

After changing the audio engine latency setting a few times, everything seemed to be better.

I don’t know if this is a direct factor, but I’m writing this down in the hope that it will help others with the same problem.

Thank you very much.

Hello, I’m experiencing the same problem. Erase does not delete events selected in midi parameters. I use midi cc tools bar.
Cubasis 3.2.1
iPad 2019

Expecting solution. Thanks.
