I get sound no more

I am using something called Cubase LE AI Elements 12. The sound used to work and it doesn’t now. I keep creating new production projects where I choose Blues Rock, Classic Rock or Rock. They come with a drum pattern for a few bars that I think is supposed to sound. It did sound before I switched computers about 9 months ago. Now, not much is happening when I press play. There are none of those moving bars. Instead it’s just black. When I create a rock project, I get this message.

The plug-in “HALion Sonic SE” could not be found for Instrument Track “Drums”!
The plug-in “HALion Sonic SE” could not be found for Instrument Track “Bass”!
The plug-in “HALion Sonic SE” could not be found for Instrument Track “Guitar”!
The plug-in “HALion Sonic SE” could not be found for Instrument Track “Organ”!

This seems like a clue. In Studio Setup, I use a driver called Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver. I try with both headphones and the laptop’s built-in speakers. I have not tried recording anything yet on this computer.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

My understanding is, you don’t have any dedicated Audeio Device, right?

Could you attach a screenshot of Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs, please?

If you playback the project, can you see the meters moving on the Instrument Tracks?

Side-note: Please, click on the Help > About Cubase. Here you can see, which edition exactly do you own (LE, AI or Elements). If you own LE or AI, you are allowed to get update to the latest Cubase 14 for free. In this case, ask for the update here (mentiond Ed and/or Matthias with the @ symbol).

Have you actually installed HALion SE? And it’s libraries?

Thank you!

I tried to send this before. They didn’t allow me to have more than one picture. I don’t know if you count any of my devices as dedicated.

What I tried to say was that the black things that say 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 40, 50, above each channel, I suppose, that usually have bars in them that get higher and lower as sound is playing, like the one you see to the left in the picture above “Stereo In 1”, don’t have any bars in them and stay black.

I thought LE, AI and Elements were all parts of the name. When I go to “About Cubase LE AI Elements”, it says “Cubase LE12” in big letters at the top. I suppose it’s LE.

I don’t know that. I know that I haven’t uninstalled it since the sound worked.

Hi,

I believe, you are talking about the meters, here. So, you don’t see the meters of the Instrument (HALion Sonic SE) tracks while playback, right?

Do you have any MIDI data in the project? Could we see a screenshot of the Project window, please?

This is the same view as earlier without any special window open that blocks the view. If you mean something else by project window, feel free to let me know.

I think I narrowed it down. I tried recording something. As you can see, the meters for “Stereo In 1” have some height. They keep moving with the sound that is picked up by my Zoom H1n that’s connected to the computer while I try to record. “Guitar (Audio)_01” and “Guitar (Audio)_02” got flat lines instead of those waves that you want. Is there another button that I missed to press? It seems this is not just some sound library that’s not working.

Hi,

Open Studio > Audio Connections > Inputs. What are the Ports of the Stereo In and Mono In 1 and 1, please?

They were at “Not Connected”. If I switch one to “Microphone (H Series Stereo 1” and the other to “Microphone (H Series Stereo 2”, their meters start moving with the sound that’s being picked up, like “Stereo In 1”.

Well this is why you got no recording, you obviously need to set the input of the track to use the same input bus you’re plugged into. You should be able to use the same physical ins for your stereo bus and two mono buses.

But your other problem would seem to be that you don’t have Halion Sonic SE installed as it’s not opening. Maybe try to run this installer

What do I change and where?
