The following functions did not work with my Nektar CS12 FW 01.02.01 / Nektar ControlCore 1.1.6 (Cubase 14.0.10 on Win 10 22H2).
If you have the time to try it with your CS12, I am happy to know:
what I do wrong (maybe also you have hints, @Tim_Chandler )
whether it also does not work for anyone of you
IF it works for you: I am interested, whether you use a different version of anything (CS12 firmware, ControlCore version, Cubase version, OS version)
What does not work for me (instructions taken from the manual contained in the download of the ControlCore 1.1.6; I often shortened/edited the text):
“Open Cubase Mixer. Hold one of the buttons < or > and turn the DATA/MENU knob - this displays an indicator move in Cubase Mixer or in the Cubase Tracklist.” >> Does not work for me. I do not see such an indicator in Cubase.
“Hold magnifier button and turn the DATA/MENU to fine adjust Song Position in Cubase.” >> Does not work for me.
“Press SHIFT + PLAY plays selection.” >> Does not work for me.
"Press SHIFT + Cycle (according to another device print label also SELECTION). " >> Does not do anything as well.
“Press-and-hold Magnifier+Mute, then move the fader without changing the value it controls. When releasing the button, the fader moves to the set position.” >> Does not work for me.
“Press MARKERS + STOP: this deletes the marker at current playhead position.” >> Does not work for me.
Same feature, but different approach mentioned in the manual: “To delete a marker at the current location, hold SHIFT and press MARKERS twice.” >> Does not work for me. INTERESTING: Instead, each pressing of the button MARKERS creates one more marker at that position (not found explained liked that in the documentation).
CS 12 just crashes on me regularly. At least when it comes to plugin control. Then it stops working in the whole project. Not even when I restart the PC. If it stops controlling the plugins in a project, it will never do it again in that project ;-(
Can you explain a bit more, what you exactly do, when you “plug-in control”? Did you add/edit mappings via MIDI Remote? If yes, did you also customize via Nektarine?
I have seen this issue, and reported it to Steinberg. Nothing we can do to fix it until the next Cubase update I’m afraid (which isn’t too far off but I can’t discuss).
When it happens you have to restart Cubase to restore normal operation.
It is more likely to occur when loading and activating projects. For the time being I suggest shutting Cubase down between projects instead of activating a new project.
It’s not really that easy since the Pre is part of the EQ page. You could always map the main pre controls you use directly onto the other pages in the Channel strip.
“Open Cubase Mixer. Hold one of the buttons < or > and turn the DATA/MENU knob - this displays an indicator move in Cubase Mixer or in the Cubase Tracklist.” >> Does not work for me. I do not see such an indicator in Cubase.
You will see this in larger projects, where this feature is very useful. Unfortunately, Cubase adds an 8-track ghost strip to every control surface that obscures the channel indication that is actually useful. Must be something left over from the MCU days. I have asked them to fix this.
This is working but you must have a selection in the arranger - such as clicking a region, or after a new recording.
“Press-and-hold Magnifier+Mute, then move the fader without changing the value it controls. When releasing the button, the fader moves to the set position.” >> Does not work for me.
This is a way of adjusting the fader to get more range when working with very fine resolution. Magnifier plus Mute allows the fader position to adjust (mute button blinking)… When you release the fader you can then make a parameter adjustment from that point. The fader only returns to normal value on releasing the Magnifier button.
Marker delete is not a Steinberg feature so this was a copy paste error from the Logic documentation. Thanks for catching that.
Hi Tim, I have ordered a Cs12 and am looking forward to it arriving this Thursday. ask. the inserts on the Cs12 screen are shown in Blue. Can that color be changed? just to maintain a “Coherence” thanks for your work!!! I really think Steinberg should take an example.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter whether I close a project first or one is still open like in the video. Even if I close Cubase and restart CS12, the problem still persists with some projects
After @Tim_Chandler 's feedback, and your summary, this seems to be difficult to explain. Sounds a bit like as a consequence of the Cubase-bug, a saving of the project might have led to inconsistency.
On the other hand, it sounds promising, that after the next Cubase-Update, new projects might be safe.
