Is the Mix Console no longer adjustable (height) in C14?

When I enable the lower zone of the arranger window so I can use the mix console, it takes up more than half of the screen. I used to be able to adjust it down, but now I can’t. This is a problem. Is it just me?

What is your screen resolution ? On my end, I’m able to downsize it vertically as shown :

Which takes a little less than the third of the whole vertical space used by Cubase maximized, but granted, I’m using a 2560 x 1440 resolution.

The more important, in my view, is that it also takes just a little more than a default Editor panel height in the same lower zone.

(Cubase 14.0.5 / Windows 10 22H2 / Radeon RX550 / AOC 32" monitor / HiDPI disabled)

I’m doing 2560 x 1080. I don’t think resolution is the problem.
The first screen shot is my normal working window. The second is after opening the lower zone. I am unable to grab the lower zone at the top line and slide it down to shorten the zone. I’ve never run into this problem before. I’ve been having all kinds of problems like this since installing C13, continuing into C14.

Does it reduce in size when you de-select components in the window layout settings ?

Are you using windows scaling ?

It varies. If I have all items selected, and I de-select:
Status> editor enlarges
Info> lower zone enlarges
Overview> lower zone enlarges
Transport Bar> editor enlarges
Each only enlarges as much as the height of the de-selected item.

I have scaling set to “System.”

Are you able to grab the line at the top of the faders and reduce them ?

It moves about a mm when I do that.

If you look at my screen shot above, there is also a slider on the right side of the lower zone that moves fully up and down, but has no effect on the zone content.

What’s the native resolution of your monitor ? And how does the lower zone in Cubase look when it is set to the native resolution ?

Hi again, @flon_klar

Here is the minimal height in pixels that I can get using respectively the MixConsole and an editor in the lower zone :

The ratio of both of them is 391/363, which is less than 1.08. What is yours ? If more or less the same, it IS a resolution problem, as @wavefunktion and I have already suggested…

I guess I’m not understanding what resolution has to do with the ability to adjust the height, or why it changed overnight after years of working correctly. Here’s my screenshot with heights in pixels:

We are just wondering because your Cubase lower zone is way too big for 1080p. I just wanted you to test if anything changes when you use your monitors native resolution (which you haven’t clarified yet) I am assuming your monitor is 2560x1440 ? or is it natively 2560x1080 ?

These processes of elimination for trouble shooting help to provide details for the issue incase it turns out to be a bug.

Sorry, it should read 629.

Native resolution is 2560 x 1080.

Did you experience this same issue with Cubase v13 ?

No, not with height. I had, and still have, a few other issues. Such as, when focus is in the top zone, and I move down to use the transport bar, clicking on the transport bar removes focus from the top zone, meaning that I have to re-click in the top zone to do anything. This is annoying and disruptive. This was not a problem pre-C13.

Ok, unfortunately i’m running out of ideas. Are you able to test uninstalling and then reinstalling Cubase v14 ?

I’ve done it twice.

Steinberg recognized my previous issues with C13 and told me that it would be fixed in C14. They were not resolved, and now I have this issue. It’s frustrating. I appreciate your help though.

Quick suggestion, you should edit your original post and place a “issue” tag onto this thread.

OK, thanks.

Can you precise what are both your video card and your monitor model ? I ask these because on my end, I’m not even able to set my graphic card with a 2560 x 1080 resolution, even if I wanted to. Additionaly, it would help to know what OS version you are using.

Beside this, I downloaded your last screnshot and have extended it to a 2560 wide image, keeping its proportion (it would help to have screenshots of the whole 2560 x 1080 screen, instead of reduced ones, by the way). Few observations :

  • Your overall MixConsole height is not 639 but 604 pixels (the space used for the tabs labels are inherent to the lower zone layout). I have measured this as so, in my previous screenshots.

  • You have made both the Channel label and Equalizer curves as always displayed. It’s your choice, but well : these take 122 pixels height. So, in my way of seeing, your LZ MixConsole area height is actually 604 - 122 = 482 pixels.

  • Every components of your screenshot are taller than mine, with more or less the same proportion ratios, between 1.25 and 1.35, and this is very near the 1440 / 1080 one. So, I still see this as a resolution issue, but again, more precisions about your setup would help.

And I’m still waiting to know what is the ratio between your minimal MixConsole height and the Editor one. Additionaly, what are the proportions that you get, after having set your resolution to 2560 x 1440 ?

I also have this problem. I also can’t get the mixer window to appear sometimes. Hugely frustrating. Projects constantly crashing when in mix window view as well… I’m pretty upset.
