Is there a way to save and load an effect chain in cubase?

Hi guys ,
I’m trying to find if there’s a way in cubase to save a group of effects as a chain and load them into an insert slot whenever I need. For example, let’s say I have five effects (like a master chain) set up in a specific order. I want to save that chain and later load it into an insert slot on any track , not as a whole saved track, but just the chain itself. The idea is that I could have a track with some effects already in the insert slots, and then, starting from a specific slot (let’s say slot 4), I could load my saved chain of five effects, and they will fill slots 4 to 8 automatically.
Is there a way to do this directly ??

Maybe this:

Hi there, if you hover over the upper area of insert slots you will see an icon where you can click and save/load fx chains. Not sure if you can do it for some of the slots though. I think it’s working for all of them.

Since Cubase will always save and recall the entire insert section with an FX chain preset you can try this to be able to load things onto specific slots:

Create a dummy audio track. Load the FX Chain preset in there. Then, in MixConsole, drag’n’drop the plugins over to the channel where you actually want them to be.
Afterwards you can delete the dummy track.

I talked about it on KVR several times, it is very much worth considering using the free Waves StudioRack.
Not only if can create and load chains, but it can offer multiband and parallel processing ! Ultra powerful and flexible.
Works for all vst3 plugins.
A beast of a creative tool especially it can make any vst3 plugin multiband.

But do you have to install the Waves Shell for it to run?

I have not checked if there is a separate installer, but I suppose you have to go through the Waves Central App.
I do not mind the Waves shell as I also use a bunch of plugins from Waves, all got for free with their giveaways.
And really, StudioRack is a monster for creating chains, you can turn it into a free XVOX / RC20 etcc alternative, all multiband and parallel.
If Steinberg implemented that and made it integrated with track presets and the channel strip then it would be awesome !
I love StudioRack.

So we need a SteinbergRack now!

Well if they revisited their preset system across the board it wouldn’t hurt.
I am not sure how many here use it. I always found it a bit archaic.
And if they tied presets with the channel and the modulators, there could be great things to setup and recall.
For now, yes StudioRack is a very powerful tool, overlooked by many because the the reluctance towards the Waves Update Plan, which in my view does not concern PC users at least. And a great free plugin is great even if you only get to use it for a year or two !

Looks like StudioRack is no longer free, it’s now a new version and you have to buy other bundles to get it.
Why doesn’t that surprise me ?

It is free Paul. It is now bundled with StudioVerse, but do not confuse with the paid content packages where they try entice people to download chains from famous producers.
StudioRack is the same system but you create your own.

I thought this was changed in C14 so that the channels get reordered? You can use copy and paste, instead.

Thanks for that Antoine-B,
Seems like I couldn’t d/l it unless I was using my MacBookPro which is where all my Waves plugins are installed.
Tried it briefly, not for me  different strokes for different folks I guess.

What? No.

Are you trying to convince me that I am halucinating when I copy plugins from one channel to another?

Like I said, changed in Cubase 14. I believe you use Cubase 12?

I don’t think it’s 12, the inserts on 12 don’t have this symbol on the right that is visible on Johnny’s screenshot. And letters are black.

Copying plugins from one channel to another in the MixConsole definitely still works in Cubase 14 – I do it all the time. Note that it’s Alt-Drag (assumedly Option-Drag on Mac), not just Drag (but that has been the same ever since I’ve used it in earlier versions).

I’m going by his profile. That’s why I added a “?”.
