Issue with cubase15 and keyboard controller

After posting an issue 2 days ago I have further looked into the problem I am experiencing with getting my m-audio keyboard to play directly with cat in Cubase 15. I have discovered that if I play the keyboard and then press the retrospective button the midi appears. So the keyboard is being recognised but is not playing the midi notes as I play them. This totally different to cb14 which plays sounds as I press the keys. Has anyone had the same experience as it’s frustrating me as I can’t find anything wrong with the setup.

Hi,

Does it mean that the Record- and Monitor buttons are enabled, you play your MIDI Keyboard, but you don’t hear the sound?

Could you double-check the MIDI Monitor? Can you see incoming MIDI data?

Is the Input Channel set to Any Input?

Could you double-check the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter? By default, only the SysEx message filter is enabled for both Payback and Thru.

Double-check the Preferences > Record > MIDI > Record-Enable allows MIDI Thru. Is this option enabled?

Double-check the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Thru Active. Is this option enabled?

Hi Martin,
Thanks for responding. I have checked all the items you suggested and they were all set correctly except everything was enabled in the Midi filter section. I have set this so that only the SysEx is enabled for both playback and Thru.
This has now enabled me to see that Halion sonic keyboard within CB15 is communicating with my keyboard but there is no sound. I wasn’t getting any Midi communication with the keyboard at all previously. I am now getting no sound coming out of CB15 even though the audio settings are correct? If I run the test in the Hub I get sound coming out of both speakers?

Hi,

If you playback, disable the Monitor button on the track, please.

Hi, monitor turned off and I can hear Audio tracks but not Midi tracks?

Sorry its Instrument tracks not Midi.

So you can record notes? If you open list edit you can see what channel they are recorded on….check that’s what you think it should be.

Yes I can record notes but without any sound. Could you enlighten me to where List edit is?

Just noticed that the outputs on control room are both red

Actually list editor doesn’t seem to show the correct channel anyhow, on my setup it just shows 16 regardless of what channel my keyboard is set to….not exactly sure what’s going on there. But you can set the out channel for midi in the inspector so check that’s set to a channel you have a sound loaded.

As far as control room outs not being connected….that won’t matter if you have outputs connected…..you need one or the other, not both.

This is how it is set up on routing

So it will pass through the channel you have set on your midi controller because it’s set to “Any”.

If your controller is not set to ch1 then it won’t play a Halion instrument loaded to slot 1.

Try setting it to ch1….if that works then you know your controller must be set to a different channel.

Changed it to channel 1 but still no sound?

Sorry wrong screenshot.

Hi All, Not sure how I this fixed my issue, but I deleted the Halion sonic instrument from the
project window track and also reinstalled it in download manager and the system seems to be working correctly now? I have tested all methods of adding tracks and they all work as expected?
