Lower Zone Mixing Window took a step back

On Cubase 13 you had a left option menu that allowed you to quickly switch between fader view, sends view, and input view. On Cubase 14 that is no longer the option and you have to expand lower zone to view those settings. This is really a step backwards. I now have to use the mixer in lower zone in almost identical the same way as the full mixer. Whereas before the lower zone mixer worked as intended, minimized screen space with most functionality.

You can easily adjust this just like before:

Click here in the lower zone mixer on the upper right side and you can set it all up to taste - just one click away.

Yes I can add to see sends/insers/strip etc but I still have to expand the lower zone to where it’s almost full screen to see those parameters. Where as before I could have the mixing lower zone and switch between what I want to see without making the lower zone bigger.

I understand your point and I can see how this could be frustrating for you. These are the kind of issues that can arise when there is conflicting philosophical design views for the software. I could see where the previous design could be useful for users. Maybe Steinberg could implement something like a “minimal” and “maximum” view preset for the mixer in the lower zone. Just an idea…

The full Mixconsole in lower zone is the best new feature!

+1 For me it is a step back. There is o option to hide volume faders and show ONLY inserts or/and sends. Which in my case requires to enlarge the lower zone to 3/4 of my screen - which makes using the lower zone useless. Pity.

But you can’t hide volume fades which take most of the lower zone space. There should be an option to choose what you like to see INCLUDED faders.

@Starnaf and @Primo100 okay, now I get it.
I think @wavefunktion suggested a good solution to that problem!

I think it’s important to acknowledge that there are people who use Cubase on laptops and smaller monitors and users who prefer the workflow of the previous minimalistic view in general, just as there will be users who prefer the workflow of the new implementation in v14. Having something like a “minimal” and “maximum” view presets or more customization ability for the lower zone mixer still makes sense to me at least. Hopefully Steinberg will address this.

These changes to the lower zone mixer seem like a bad idea. The lower zone mix console is a different use case than the full window mix console. The whole point of the lower zone console is that it is compact enough to coexist with the other panes at the same time. Burdening it with features that use a lot of screen real estate makes no sense. If you need access to those, then use the full window mix console. That’s what it’s there for.

Dom’s demo of this is hilarious. To use the new features, he needed to grow the lower zone so much that only one track shows in the project arrange area above  . It would make a lot more sense to use the full window console in that case.

Step back for me. Having said that I use 2 monitors, with mixer on the 2nd, so not a big deal. But the full view is too big as to be practical. Now I haven’t used lower zone stuff for ages - is there a means to reduce the height of the actual fader section? You can reduce the upper mixer zone taking up space but that just hides the bits you actually want to access anyway, which is absolutely pointless. But as it stands it takes up half the screen so as to be completely impractical working in the arrangement page.

Gotta admit, seems like one of those things that’s like “cool lets do that”, but there wasn’t much testing as to “is this actually of any help?” The option to flip between those channel types on faders in one click was great. Why would they remove something like that??

If they’re going to make the full mixer applicable to the lower zone then they need to design the mixer in a way that is scalable/practical when working in the lower zone in the first place.

Just allow us to hide faders, numbers are good enough indication, ableton have really nice small audio faders in edit window

I think that having the ability to show / hide the “Faders” for the current v14 lower zone mixer view window layout settings is a great suggestion and should be implemented.

However I think some people are missing the point with the functionality of the previous Cubase Pro v13 lower zone mixer view, which is that it was less mouse clicks to navigate and less mouse scrolling for the user.

While I think Cubase Pro v14 lower zone mixer implementation is just fine. However I still believe that the Cubase Pro v13 lower zone mixer view was useful and I would like to see it re-implemented to give users the option to decide between which view is best for them and what works best for their workflow.

This is my suggestion on how I would re-implement it:

Yes. Agree. I worked must faster. Lowering and expanding the new lower zone kept me focused on the session. Thanks Steinberg

Nice ideas/visuals @wavefunktion

Or, just include a checkbox for the faders in the panel that @Reco29 pointed out in the post above… Lower Zone Mixing Window took a step back - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

For me the lower zone mixer was fairly useless due to the fact that MIDI tracks were present. Sure, you could hide them, but they’d also disappear in the project window (upper zone). So, I exclusively used the full mixer window (F3 makes it effortless to pull up/dismiss). Even if this is fixed, I’m not sure I’d stop using the full mixer window pretty much all the time.

I don’t know what you’re referring to, but when you filter track types in the mixer console to hide midi tracks, it only hides them in the console mixer. They are still visible in the project window.

The mixer window (as opposed to the mixer in lower zone of the project window) and the project window have separate, independent visibility settings. So, you can hide MIDI tracks in the full mixer and not have them disappear in the project window.

I agree whole heartedly. I can’t even work in Cubase 14 right now because of this. I spent hours looking for the button to switch to input view and messed with so many settings. I honestly can’t believe they would remove the option. I have to constantly move the slider up to see the inserts section, so much so that my flow is completely ruined.

Sorry, but I don’t get where the problem actually is…

FWIW, I quite like this view, and could make an use of it as, until now, I never have used the MixConsole in the lower zone : too limited and clumsy, and I have a dedicated workspace for my full MixConsole view that I can recall with a simple keystroke.
