Lyric lines overlapping

Hello… not sure what I’ve done here… in this particular document, Lyric line 1, 2, 3, and 4 all seem to be at the same height. I also thought something might be amiss when I entered the first line… the text is awfully close to the bottom line of the staff. Where do I find the settings for the distance of lyrics, and whever else may be causing this?

Another oddity… if it is of any help… I noticed if I set the lyric to ‘above’ that it, well, isn’t actually going where I would expect it to.

I don’t recall making any changes in Library > Engraving Options > Lyrics > Vertical Position…

Actually… just noticed that a document I was working on last week (before update to 5.1) is doing the same thing now…

Can you attach the project itself here? Unfortunately, diagnosing peculiar behaviours using only pictures is beyond us. Particularly in the days following an update when there is much more traffic than usual on the forum, it’s a good idea to try and make it as easy as possible for us to help you if you want efficient assistance.

Cut the project down to just a few bars that repoduce the issue (save a copy, delete all extraneous flows, delete all players but this one, or perhaps even use File > Export > Flows to export just one flow and one layout) and attach the project here, and we’ll be glad to take a look.

@dspreadbury attached…
Where’s My Thing Fills.dorico (1.2 MB)

I tried on a new OOTB template… and seems fine… so will be very interested to understand what I’ve done here!

Thanks very much for attaching the project. I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong here – this looks like a regression that we’ll need to investigate. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks for the quick set of eyes on it. It is appreciated.

I wonder if you ever found fix for this. I am having the same issue in a percussion part with lyrics. I can get the handle to appear, but I can not move it vertically, either with the mouse or with arrows.

Alt-down arrow (or on Mac, Opt-down arrow) doesn’t work?

Nope. Not at all.
Dorico 5.1 btw

Can you attach the project, or a trimmed-down portion of it that demonstrates the problem?

Yes - here is a file. All the other lyrics are vertically draggable, but not the percussion.

Can’t drag percussion lyric.dorico (1.1 MB)

You’re right, and I tried it on my own project with the same result. Sorry, I got nothin.

Haha! Thanks anyway!

I find it weird that Dorico is colliding it with the notation. It’s so rare to see collisions in Dorico.

I’m having this same issue. I am unable to manually adjust the vertical position of any lyrics.

In Engrave mode, I can adjust the horizontal position both through dragging and with the Offset setting. However, I cannot drag vertically and the Y value for Offset has no effect.

By default my lyrics overlapped with note stems hanging down. I solved that by adjusting the minimum distance from staff in Engraving Options > Lyrics > Vertical Position. The other vertical position options are not having any effect for me.

As I reread the earlier posts, I realized that they’re both working on percussion parts. I’m using the lyrics to write stickings on a drum set part. Maybe this has something to do with lyrics on percussion parts?

I also just updated to 5.1. Thanks for the assistance.

Welcome to the forum.

Just to clarify: you can’t adjust lyrics vertically by dragging. ’Twas ever thus.

Welcome to the forum, @malloyca. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this regression in Dorico 5.1. We will issue a fix for this problem as soon as possible.

@jbegin @malloyca looks like this is resolved in the recent update. Thanks, @dspreadbury

Yes. The percussion stickings are now displaying correctly for me. Thank you everyone for the help.

I’ve noticed this problem as I’ve tried making percussion stickings for my students. @jbegin @malloyca when you say it’s been resolved by the recent update, are you able to adjust the lyrics vertically? I have the most recent update, but I still cannot move the lyrics.
