I’m writing a choir piece with Dorico 5 and trying to add lyrics, but when I press the hyphen key, it’s not creating syllables within words (like ‘mid-dle of the word’). Instead, each syllable is being treated as a whole word. How can I resolve this issue so that I can properly hyphenate multi-syllable words in my lyrics?
Entering a hyphen after the first syllable definitely should achieve what you want.
Exactly what keystrokes are you using?
I was using the hyphen key, located between the 0 key and the equal key on my keyboard.
Wow, thank you so much for your response. It just struck me that maybe my Korean hyphen could be different from the English hyphen. I tried using the English hyphen, and it instantly worked!
I also share the possibility to put a hyphen if it is necessary not to hyphenate with the next syllable of the same word, but just to put a dash mark ( --) in the sense of - “it means”. In such a case, you can press the combination Alt+Shift+ “-” (or “–”). You can also use the same combination to put a space inside one syllable (if you need it. Regards! :-).
It is also possible to insert characters from a set of fonts by pressing Alt. But unfortunately I don’t see an option to view the character table of a particular font (as was possible in Finale).
From the Dorico Help site:
To include a hyphen within a single word or syllable, press Alt/Opt– (hyphen).
enters a non-breaking hyphen.
A dash (en or em) is typographically different from a hyphen.
In my case, I used the same keystroke - in the same spot on the keyboard - in the same language, English (You can use both Korean and English in the Korean language setting). My guess is hyphen in Korean language setting and hyphen in English language setting have different ASCII code or something.
This is very interesting to me. It might also possibly be that they are generating the same codepoint, but since the key code from the keyboard is different, it doesn’t trigger advancing to the next note in Dorico. I’d like to find out the answer if you can post a sample of text with your Korean-entered hyphen.
Sounds very interesting to me, too. Here is the hyphen sample in Korean language setting:

And here is the hyphen sample in English (intl) language setting:

And here is the hyphen sample in English (US) language setting:

Thanks. They are the same here in your post, so it must be the keyboard interaction.
