MIDI Channels change when Output Routing is changed for a set of MIDI tracks

When multiple MIDI tracks are selected and the Output Routing is changed for the whole group <Shift + Option + Click> the MIDI Channel is changed on all of the selected tracks to the channel that the top track was set to.

  1. Create multiple MIDI tracks with different assigned channels
  2. Select multiple MIDI tracks
  3. Hold Shift + Option and change the Output Routing
→ Result = All selected MIDI tracks will have the channel assigned to the top track in the set

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Isn’t only Alt modifier for this task? Sorry, I’m not with Cubase at this moment, I can’t test it.

No, the instructions are Shift + Option, see attached picture

May I ask if this is now logged as a bug and will be looked at? Its driving me insane!

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry, maybe I lost a track, but what is your expectation? The hint says:

Set for all selected with…

I would like the bug I submitted to be addressed please.

Hi,

I mean, what should happen, if you hold Shift + Option and change the Output Routing, please?

The MIDI Channels should not be changed when the Output Routing is group-changed, just the output routings.

It doesn’t make sense, also it’s not been a problem in all the Cubase versions until I upgraded from 11 to 13.

Hi,

Do I understand correctly your issue?

  • Track 1: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 2: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 2
  • Track 3: MIDI Output Port B; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 4: MIDI Output Port B; Output MIDI Channel 2
  • Select Track 1, hod down Shift + Opt and change the MIDI Out Port to A.
    => Result:
  • Track 1: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 2: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 3: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 4: MIDI Output Port A; Output MIDI Channel 1

Expected result:

  • Track 1: MIDI Port Output A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 2: MIDI Port Output A; Output MIDI Channel 2
  • Track 3: MIDI Port Output A; Output MIDI Channel 1
  • Track 4: MIDI Port Output A; Output MIDI Channel 2

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg.

Thanks

Any feedback on this careless design of cubase 13, if they change this function, they MUST give user a option to set this function

Because this bug was not solved in Cubase 13 and up till now not solved in Cubase 14, I opened a Ticket (ID #675877) on December 19, 2024.
Nothing happens and after 4 weeks the ticket is automatically marked as solved.
Today I reported this again. I hope it will be fixed in the next update.
This problem does not exist in Cubase 12.

Thanks, no idea they had a timeout on bug fixes, thats lazy.

Steiburg, please prioritise quality of your products over quantity of features - it’ll pay off in the long run.

Hi, just want to resurrect this post, I have the same problem here and it’s really annoying… Steinberg, please, when we change the output routing of multiple MIDI tracks at the same time, we just want all these tracks to be routed to the same instrument (Kontakt for instance), but keep their respective channels unchanged!
Used to work fine in previous Cubase versions…

Same for me. Stumbled over this and first thought this was somehow my mistake. The current behavior that resets the midi channel is pretty annoying. You can’t simply batch change the output of a bunch of channels as the channel always gets broken.

Same, still happening here on both C14 and N14. Combined with the Instrument track with routed midi channels loosing its correct channel routings this is an absolute workflow killer…

Hi,

Which version of Cubase 14 exactly do you have, please?

Do you have steps, how to replicate the issue, please?
