No, I’m not arguing, I’m getting the same response. There’s a dead band around 100Hz for the Frequency parameter on the Channel EQ’s Band 1. (Sends are the same by the way.)
My point was just that this behavior doesn’t apply to all VST parameters. At least not from what I have noticed.High-cut and Low-cut in the Pre section for example does not appear to have this dead band/detent/rubberbanding behavior.
My own preferred solution would be option 5 — having the ability to disable the behavior of these default values completely.
The first reason I would like to be able to disable it is that I don’t think it makes sense in some cases. The Frequency of the Channel EQ for example. What is it about Band 2 that makes 800Hz a good stop value. I can change the default settings of the entire EQ section with “Save as Default Preset”. If I save a new default preset where Band 2 has a frequency of 500Hz, it will still have a dead band around 800Hz. Also, from a practical standpoint, Band 2 is identical in function to Band 3. I would prefer if I could smoothly be able to sweep through the whole frequencies range of the EQ using MIDI Remote.
The second reason is that I loose resolution. Take the EQ Gain parameters as an example. My encoders for controlling this parameter has a step resolution of 1/480. This equates to 0.1dB changes. But due to this dead band effect, I can’t reach any value between -0.4dB and +0.4dB.
