Mixed Slash/Rhythm Notation

Hello,

Recent transplant from Finale. When creating lead and rhythm sheets, it would often be necessary to have rhythm and slash notation in the same bar, particularly to show anticipations. I am trying to recreate this effect from Finale using staff styles:

But when I change noteheads to rhythm notation in Dorico and then try and add slashes between those anticipation beats, this is the closest I can get:

The slash on Bt. 2 and 4 are obscured and the tie disappears. Is there any remedy for this, workaround or otherwise?

For this kind of mixed notation, I would suggest not using slash regions, and instead using a slash voice for that whole passage. You can hide the stems for the slashes that shouldn’t show them via the Properties panel.

Hey!
I made this compilation a while ago:

My way of notating this would be with rhythmic cues/hints above the staff, maybe using l.v. ties if the bar after the anticipation is played freely again. Anticipations like the E7 you could keep inside the staff.
Maybe this helps…
Cheers and all the best,
Benji

I also made this about rhythmic cues above the staff:

If i hide stems, the beams do not break so it’s not looking quite right. And the slashes do not match the slash region above and below it so this ends up being very fiddly. Is there something I’m missing?

Similarly if i keep them a regular voice and change the stemless noteheads to large slashes and the anticipations to rhythm notation, the l.v. tie is too small (in my opinion) to get at what I’m going for, and if i add a proper tie then it changes the notehead after it

Use a Slash Voice for anything you need beamed or tied:

Hi Conor,

I’m not sure if you ever resolved this, but I just ran into the same problem and figured it out.

In write mode: select the note/slash note that you want to have as a flagged beam, right click, beaming > make unbeamed.
