Here’s the steps I take
- Select Arturia Instrument track - which is a VST 3 Instrument this is repeatable across different Arturia instruments.
- While track is is playing
- Open Lower zone modulator tab
- Select LFO and adjust time to 8 bars or 12 bars
- Choose select on the Modulator interface
- Select the parameters associated with the VST Instrument - e.g. ADSR or Cut-off freq
- Cubase displays an Orange bar with a message saying that you can’t modulate VST2 parameters and to use VST 3 instead (I’m using VST3)
- Cubase Freezes - but audio continues to play
- Audio now has audible screeching that sounds like feedback
- Sometimes the whole screen goes black and then comes back (this is a new feature in 14.0.30)
- Normally the system settles down and the modulator works just fine
Thoughts?
This also occured in 14.0.20 -but seems worse in new version (I hoped it would have been resolved along with the modulator export bug) - the freeze now takes longer and the screen goes black?

I just tried this a different way.
Step 6 - don’t select a parameter and close the window to go back to the modulator tab
Step 7-10 Identical - BUT Cubase went to black screen three times - and I had to abort Cubase with Task Manager
Also get the same error if Cubase is not playing the track - but it reverts back to normal more quickly.
Can you please specify exactly which plugin you use? It would also be nice if you can show in the screenshot that this indeed is a VST3 plugin. Thanks.
Certainly here you go - in this instance it is the Arturia SEMV2
Also - as I said after the Orange bar, the audio screeching, the freeze and the black screen it then works - here it is in action - same project, same instrument etc
Here’s a video of the bug - it hasn’t captured the audio - not sure how to do that using Windows Snipping tool.
The whole time the orange bar is on the screen - cubase is unresponsive to mouse clicks/key presses and the audio is howling.
Is no one else experiencing this?
No comment from any Steinberg people?
I wish I could try to reproduce your reported issue but I have no Arturia plugins at all. I kind of hoped others with such licenses would chime in.
What you can try:
Go to Edit → Profile Manager… and create a NEW profile there. Then please activate it and restart Cubase. Play around with the modulators if it works then.
If the problem still persists you can switch back to your previous profile at any time.

I tried creating a new profile - it made no difference.
I also did full un-install and re-install of all the Arturia Instruments - again made no difference.
Given that Arturia are very popular, I’m surprised no-one else has the problem if it is a bug?
And if it isn’t an Arturia problem, I wonder what could be the issue with my set-up. My set-up is very simple Win 11, Focusrite Interface - mainly Arturia and UAD plug-ins, nVidia 3070 Graphics with up to date studio driver etc? (spec in my bio)
And the fact that it does eventually work - kind of tells me that the gitching and orange bar are a bug?

I tried with a couple of my Arturia plugins on W11 but didn’t see anything like that..
I have no issues adding a modulator using select or learn to the VST3 plugin.
Is there anything in your steps that makes a difference? Does it matter if note is set to 12 or 8?
OK - I think I’ve solved it.
If I uncheck the use VST2 plugins option at the bottom of the plug-in manager window and then re-start cubase, I don’t get the bug anymore.
Weird that the plug-ins I’m modulating aren’t VST2 though!?
Also - that I need to enable VST2 so I can use my favourite OHMBoyz delay plug-in

Looks like I solved it. Out of interest, do you have ‘use VST2 plugins’ enabled in Plug-in manager?
Yes, but I have recently removed all duplicate vst2 versions except for certain compatibility and unique plugins such as my jbridged plugins.
You may not know this but if you have VST2 enabled, when you load an instrument or pluign the VST3 version will have 3 stripes beside it ( but it’s sometimes covered up by the scroll bar) which indicates it is VST3. If VST2 is disabled there is no indicator.

Thanks - I did know that about the 3 stripes.
As part of the trouble shooting I did completely unistall and then re-install the Arturia Instrument Library, and made sure to only install the VST3s - as it does have an option to install VST2 versions as well.
So now I’m completely VST3 - apart from my trust old OhmBoyz delay - I guess I’m just going to have to find a new favourite delay
