[Music] HornForHire - Morning Sun - Lyrics and Tape by Jet

Hi everyone,

Here’s my latest song.
It took quite some time to finish it, at one point I even deleted everything except the midi track for the Rhodes and retracked everything with a slightly different groove.

This song features lyrics from our friend Jet (aka Pearldivers).

I did the drums with EZ Drummer, the Jazz kit.
The bass is my Squier Jazz Bass.
The Rhodes is MrRay73 with a Kjaerhus flanger.
The guitars are my Charvel Model 1A.
The arpeggio synth pad is the Minimoog V.
The saxes are my Selmer Mark VI.
The trumpets and trombones are from Garritan JABB.
I did all the vocals.

Oh, and as a last minute addition a real tambourine.

Have a listen if you like, all comments are welcome, as usual.

Morning Sun
Lyrics by Jet Crawford

Hanging on your breathing in the room
Counting every star out in the gloom
Whispering your name so tenderly
Wishing you’d remain and stay with me

Waiting for the morning sun
Waiting till the morning comes
See the shadows on the run
I’m waiting for the morning sun
Waiting for the morning sun

Memories leap out upon the page
Sending me the message of the age
The innocence the years cannot condemn
Love and gentleness win in the end

I’m waiting for the morning sun
Waiting till the morning comes
See the shadows on the run
Waiting for the morning sun
Waiting for the sun

Release will be considered by the dawn
And peace will be delivered, won’t be long
Eternity will take you from my hands
But mystery will make me understand

Waiting for the morning sun
Waiting till the morning comes
See the shadows on the run
Waiting for the morning sun
I’m waiting for the morning sun

I’m waiting for the morning sun
Waiting till the morning comes
See the shadows on the run
Waiting for the morning sun
Waiting for the sun

A big Thank You to Jet for these great lyrics!

Cheers,
Wim

You’re brave! Going head to head with Jet’s own version - the opening track on his latest CD no less!

I realise of course they’re completely different tunes, melodies and arrangements - but it’s interesting to hear the same words in an entirely different context. I have to try shake off Jet’s song - it’s still quite fresh in my head having been in my car CD player for a while now.

There’s no doubt this song is very “Wim” :sunglasses: There’s a lot to like in this… nice sax as always, liked the harmonies, brass sounds good, and as usual your voice sits well in this style. Mix sounds nice and open too.

Cool :sunglasses:

:sunglasses:

I had to go Jet’s CD and listen to realize what Sherz was saying. NIce.

Cheers

Thanks guys!

To be honest, I haven’t heard Jet’s version yet, I still have to order his latest CD…

I’m curious to hear what he did with the lyrics himself.

Cheers,
Wim

nice Wim, i could hear donald fagen doing that and it not being out of place amongst his tunes ,i like your voice ,and yeh it`s a nice mix.

Completely different song:

Good work as always Wim. I thought the snare was a little too flimsy but otherwise great stuff. I like the way you added more as the song progressed. Good arrangement skills there :sunglasses:

Cheers
Phil

cool song, brought back memories of an old band here called “lighthouse” really a well crafted pop tune, liked the keys and sax of course. your voice sounds a bit like neil young. perfect monday morning listen

Outstanding, Wim!
this is among your best work, IMO. I like everything about it - the dynamic, polished production, the
songwriting, performances, the perfect background vocal blend - it all comes together here.
Very well done!

Lenny

I like the chord progressions a lot - in my mind, sort of teasing and flirting, challenging one to pigeonhole, or even to predict where it will land for the chorus.

Very nice!

Hi firestamper, I’ve been told before that my music reminds people of Steely Dan/Donald Fagen and I consider that as a compliment. I’m a big fan of their music and won’t deny the influence, but I don’t hear it in this song myself.
If it’s there, it wasn’t intentional.
Thanks for listening!

Cheers,
Wim

Wow, his version is great, very different from my version.

I ordered the CD! :sunglasses:

Cheers,
Wim

Hi Phil,

Good to have you back.
You’re the first to comment about the snare. I used the Jazz kit from EZ Drummer, because I wanted it to have a sort of retro sound and I didn’t want a heavy rock snare.
It’s a matter of taste probably.

Thanks,
Wim

I’m not familiar with that band, I’ll look them up on youtube.
Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Wim

Hi Lenny,

Thanks a lot! I’m glad the mix works for you, it took quite some time getting it right because of all the different elements.

Cheers,
Wim

Thanks alexis! I appreciate that. I always try to keep the changes original or to build in an unexpected twist somewhere. Nice to hear that you like it.

Cheers,
Wim

a very nice job… i thought the lead vocal could pop out a just a little bit more…may be my speakers?

does remind of steely dan…polished!

Hi ferencz,

I will have another listen to the mix.
Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Wim

Hi Wim

Very good as always.

Levels seemed ok here. Interestingly I seem to remember you use one of thos little Art preamps. If so it just goes to show it’s not the gear that counts for everything.

Cheers

Wim,

Great groove! It’s one o’these songs that I hear from time to time that makes me smile (a feat my family would say is worthy of a medal).

As said elsewhere, great arrangement of a fine song. Top class.
