N8/N12 Support

Hello guys.
I’m a bit late with this stuff…

I have a Yamaha n8/Cubase AI 6/Mac OS 10.9.5.
Everything is working fine.
But I have just purchased the upgrade to Cubase 7.

I’d like to know if some features from the original Cubase AI 6 designed for n8/n12 will be available after the upgrade, like the template projects for n8/n12 in the Open Menu and functionalities of the mixer remote control keys.

I’m also wondering if it’s better keep using OS 10.9 or upgrade the system to the OS X Yosemite.

I thank any comments.

An update.
Cubase AI 6/7 upgrade was installed and is working nicely, still in OS X 10.9.5.

The old version of Cubase AI 6 which came with my n8 is kept and is improved to Cubase LE AI Elements 6.
A new Cubase LE AI Elements 7 is installed.
I’m not totally happy, since it’s kind of LE (why?), seemly not compared in this chart

Aloha y,

I just updated my studio ax to 10.10 and while everything is working fine, (yea!)
I see no real advantages (using Cubase) after doing it.

And while I don’t really care about ‘graphic stuff’ in a DAW,
one upside is:
even tho’ Cubase does not support Retina, the ‘dark theme’
of Yosemite does help to make Cubase look great.

YMMV

Good Luck!

Aloha guys,

@ n12/8 users. That time of year again.

Just to report that Yamy is currently ‘testing’ the n12/8 consoles for compatibility with
Windows 10 and Mac 10.11.

Watch for announcements here:

Hello curteye,

did you already update to El Captain? I have now Elements 8. I’m thinking on update OS X to El Captain without have passed through Yosemite. Do you think I’ll have problem? I have a n8.

Thanks.

Aloha y,

Yes you will have a prob using yer n8 ax.

USB audio issues seem to have been dealt with when using el Cap,
however Yamy is still testing the FW (firewire) side of things which includes
your and my ‘n’ series consoles.

Even tho’ Cubase 8.5 IS compatible with el cap, we still have to wait
till Yamy give us the ‘all clear’ with our (getting a lil long in the tooth)
n8/12 machines.

So I will wait till then to upgrade all my 'puters to OS 10.11.

Just wanted to bump this in case some Mac n8/12 users missed it.

Good Luck!

fyi - I have tested Cubase 8.5 on OS X 10.11.3 El Capitan with the n12 and the latest firewire driver V1.7.4.
Everything works fine so far - no problems.

Hello , I’ve just updated my IMac 21,5" -Mid 2011- to MacOs High Sierra 10.13. I can’t update the right drivers for my Yamaha n12. I’ve followed the Installation Guide downloaded in the “Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver V 1.75 pkg”, but i can’t see the name of N12 input or output either in the “Audio-midi configuration app” or in the System Preferences, at the audio set up. What is wrong?
