yes I mean when I click on the KEY: a serial num comes up and the little symbol turns blue…but says mixer is off line? and is greyed out…is it not to appear until I’m connected to performer ?don’t see the connection line lit up either? Or the “Event control? I’ve Updated to 5.6.10
Once you have started “VST Connect” in Cubase and clicked on Connect, the key number will appear.
Share this number with the performer via phone or chat app.
Only once the performer has entered the key into their “VST Performer” app and clicked on Connect will the mixer appear and the configuration can be carried out.
I started Cubase VST Connect Pro and created a new session with “create.”
Then I pressed Connect—the key appears.
Now I also started VST Performer on the same PC.
Here I entered the key and clicked on the connection offered for a LAN connection in the same network.
Now I have a nonsensical connection, but I was able to show you what the app windows look like before and after the connection.
You can try it out in the same way, but if you have a second PC available, that would be even better.
If you own the PRO version, you can set up 2 computers within the same network and connect (click “WiFi” type icon in the Performer app) provided Cubase is started and VST Connect is running beforehand.
Hello @musicullum,
Admittedly, it doesn’t make sense.
I just wanted to show that VST Connect only displays everything once the connection is established.
A “real” connection can only work if it is running on two PCs.
We get zero feedback from the performer, I tried it many many times today. it simply times out or doesn’t connect. it is extremely unclear to us what happens at this stage. why is there no “connect to server” / “connect to network” button / process? we cannot check whether the network problem is on the performer or the host side, so this is very weak UX.
if there is no performer on the other side, it is literally impossible to do some troubleshooting or prep the session. why is there no server ping? no function to connect to the network? Does it require a MySteinberg account? is there a separate login process “behind the screen”? it is very very opaque. It used to work quite well when there was still the users panel where we could see whether someone was online - which was also good to know because we then knew that we were “online”. all that has been taken away by the last version… there is no documentation on which port it uses either, and whether it uses cubase.exe or a DLL / “host process for windows” for the network connection - so troubleshooting is pretty much impossible.
Makes sense…it is a system based on a connection, so cannot be tested w/o one.
You can create alocal connecteion between 2 computers with the PRO version though, so you can test functionality “offline”.
Because there is no server. VST Connect is a peer-to-peer connection - with the aid of relay servers, but those merely pass data along for the case where a firewall gets in the way.
