I’ve run into snags with Steinberg in the process of upgrading my Cubase Pro versions. I purchased Cubase Pro 12 upgrade from 11 from “living-c service teal (Wolfgang Muëller)”…kept running 11 for current projects at the time. Wanting to upgrade, figuring I’d merely activate (or not) the C12 for discounts for (now) C14, I find there is no record of the purchase. The (living-c)ph number is disconnected, and so far no mail response. Steinberg agent the other day stated that I’ll have to suck it up and purchase 14 at upgrade from 11 price. I’m willing to do that, but this is a cautionary tale to properly vett the vendors, or an urging that Steinberg do the same. I never received an activation code after the C12 purchase.
Wasn’t that the official Steinberg shop (asknet), that got closed in September 2023?
So it would seem you got caught up in the asknet fiasco
And you waited until now to take action? Hmmm …
It sucks, but why would you have not investigated the situation at the time you made the purchase? You should have received an email with the download access code.
I apologize for the bad experience, but we don’t have any documentation of any purchases made with Asknet/living-c due to the company’s insolvency.
This is why unused Download Access Codes and activation codes purchased back then are lost if no order confirmation is available.
Well, a number is a number, a receipt is a receipt. I was busy with 3 other projects and put off downloading and activating. Not that unusual. But it’s supposedly perfectly reasonable (and acceptable) that “due to insolvency, …unused Download Access Codes and activation codes purchased back then are lost.” Hmmm. No big deal…I did what I needed to do and I learned from the experience. I suppose I should have known better, especially after episodes of chasing down dollars from movies after production companies no longer officially exist. I’ll bring the elixir back to the village on that one, too, but could do without the chiding.
Do you have an unused download access code or activation code? I thought the problem was that you didn’t have one?
I have a receipt for the order. Never received access or activation code, and that fell through the cracks of my cognizance due my errant presumption that it would be there at the time I downloaded. My mistake. I still have the receipt, though.
Ok…you obviously had a good search of your mails for the code??
it would be in a mail from steinberg@asknet.de and in the title would have Order Confirmation and order no.
Sheeeeeeeyit. Just now located it. I’m a dolt. What’s my recourse? I’ve purchased C14 (I have act code for that, too…haven’t installed. Must I install 12 now for the (retroactive) upgrade price?
Yep…you can claim refund on 14 update.
And buy the 12 to 14 instead. But it may take a while to get the refund processed.
Just sorted this and Adam w customer serv took care of the whole thing expediently with new activation code in the eLicenser Control Center.
Refund already took.
Happy to know Steinberg suffers us itinerant fools from time to time.
Thanks to you folks who weighed in (like Grim…thanks bud). I’m heartened.
