Despite the activity of “In midi” in the meter, bottom right, there is nothing happening in the recording in the midi track!
Does anyone have a solution? It works with audio tracks.
hardware: Yamaha Clavinova CLP-650 keyboard
Behringer external midi sound card UMC-204HD
ROLAND SC-55 EXPENDOR
DigitalLife 4i/4o midi interface
Double-check that the track itself
- has the correct midi input routing.
- is record-enabled
yes, I have done it several times!! and it looks good to me!
If that’s not it, images of your configuration will be necessary, since forum users cannot see over your shoulder.
Here the “In midi” meter
I would try two things, at least, for troubleshooting :
- Deactivate all the MIDI Remote related stuff : a controller definition might go in the way.
- Deactivate all what is ‘Direct music’ or ‘Win RT’ related : on my end, the five options at the bottom of the MIDI Port Setup panel are all unchecked and everything works perfectly. This, with a rather similar setup : a MIDI keyboard set as an external synth MIDI source. So, unstead you are using any BlueTooth device (which doesn’t seem to be the case) or a specific Direct Music driver, I would uncheck all these…
Additionaly, a screenshot of the MIDI track used, with its inspector visible, would also help.
EDIT : uncheck also the Externally clocked (“Synchronisé à une horloge externe”) option, unless that is clearly the case (doesn’t seem so, either).
EDIT 2 : try also also to use the Reset button in the Studio > Studio Setup > Audio System panel (the one at the bottom of it). Sometimes, for a reason, even if MIDI incoming messages are detected, they are not transmitted to the tracks with a MIDI port as input routing : never found a true explanation about it…
Thanks for all these suggestions!
I just tested but nothing changes at the moment.
here are the new screenshots.
OK… Do you have any MIDI DIN cables at disposal, to replace the MIDI USB connections ? Old school fart, here : I have never rely on any USB connections when MIDI is involved. If you have some, try to use them with the UMC240HD 192k MIDI IN/OUT ports instead.
Beside this, and as I see that you have Halion Sonic set in an Instrument track, do you get sounds from it, and is it using the same input routing ?
Additionaly, I would like to see a similar screenshot of the MIDI 01 track, but while actually trying to record MIDI messages on it.
You’ve probably done this but check in Device Manager (Windows) to see if your USB ports have not been powered down by your machine.

Hello, I actually connected the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of the UMC204HD and the midi in of the keyboard to the midi out. the Roland expander is also with midi in/out cable on the digitalLife 4i/4o interface.
I put a guitar on the UMC input port and there I can record and listen to the recording.
With Halion it’s like with the keyboard, it’s impossible to record.
I just looked (again) but everything is correct on the Windows level with the device drivers up to date.
Then, I have a problem with these, especially the first one :
-
Are you sure that the MIDI cables and Input/output connections used match the Input/Output routing choosed in your inspector ? I doubt it, seeing the USB Midi 4i4o label…
-
Have you double checked the channels used on all your setup ?
