I do absolutely agree. I sarted with Finale v.1 and there were no tutorials at all, just the amazing and clear manual I read completely because it was direct and useful information.
With Dorico sadly I keep looking for answers in Google because even the online help seems a mess to me…
Here’s the latest blog post from Jan 15th.
Just beware (as has often been pointed out here): Google search results are biased towards historical hits — data utterly beyond Steinberg’s control — so searches are very likely to return outdated, even superseded, information.
Sure, that is right.
Works fine for now, however.
I started with version 2.6.3 but I don’t want the pre-internet times back at all.
Actually the Finale manual became useful not until version 3.0 (the three purple books).
This forum and the countless video tutorials are indispensable help sources for Dorico besides the online help.
IIRC There was a video tape (or two) in at least one of the first couple of Finale versions.
I’m pretty used to the separation of Write and Engrave modes now, but in light of some of this conversation I wonder if it wouldn’t be nice to have the following:
- Galley view “mode” in which one can freely adjust the spacing between individual staves. This mode would be for note and other entry only.
- Page “mode” in which one can BOTH enter notes and adjust layout.
Apply multi- measure rests in write mode so I dont have to scroll through pages to copy and paste. I’m mainly transcribing horn charts and it would be nice to be able to see at a glance where the next music needs to be inserted.
Text boxes/word wrapping is what I miss the most.
Can you say more about what you’re trying to do? Dorico does have text frames, which work very much like Finale’s text boxes (including word wrap).
That appears to be multi-line Staff Text (SHIFT-X), the only difference being it has a right-hand anchor as well as a left-hand starting point.
@Derrek, I long for word wrapping in Staff-attached and System-attached text, which I am illustrating here.
I second this request. Sometimes, it makes sense to have text between barlines, for instance, and wrapped. I normally “wrap” it manually with carriage returns, but it’s not an optimal solution. When doing worksheets for my students, I do this all the time.
Got it. I agree that some equivalent to Finale’s measure-attached text boxes would be nice. (I think that Dorico’s text frames are already like Finale’s page-attached text boxes.)
Now who would have thought using chord symbols would invoke multi measure rests
