NotePerformer 4 Released

I’ve been using NP4 since the first beta. I don’t load all. It just takes too long to load up and I have no need to have all those instruments I don’t use chewing RAM.

I have 128GB so the RAM isn’t such an issue as the load time (and unload time).

It’s very easy to make ensembles and save them as different templates.

I have updated everything OK but according to instructions for CSS you should (turn off 'VST3 Multiprocessor). I can see it in Kontakt standalone but not how to access VST3. How do I do it?

@laughreyg are you able to comment on differences in the playback of your “Two Contrasts” using the previous and latest versions of NP and NPPE? (I am hoping to get Synchron Prime in the coming months after being mostly very happy with a trial version months ago, although there were occasional disturbing bumps in playback which the new release notes lead me to believe have likely been resolved.) Regardless, “Two Contrasts” is a fun piece that brings back memories of much earlier days playing trombone-congratulations!

You can open a Kontakt VST3 window from the “Advanced” menu for an instrument slot in NPPE, change the setting, and restart NPPE. You only need to do it once, since it’s a universal setting for all future Kontakt instances.

I’m just starting to try this out this morning. The level of articulation and expressiveness is extraordinary – really listening to the music with new ears. I really hadn’t expected such a dramatic change – mostly for the better.

It’s very welcome seeing initial support for VSL Synchronised SE and the results are in a different class from anything which is possible with notation software alone. One thing which would be really helpful though would be if there was a way for NP to use the muted brass instruments from the second volume for when con sord is called for. VSL’s implementation is annoying here. This could perhaps be added without needing to support all the additional instruments in the second volume (I can understand you might want to put that into a separate release) because without it, no score of mine including brass will play back correctly.

I am not too computer of a person, just a not too smart musician. Where do I find “advanced” setting? Need more detail direction.

Thanks for the kind words. Playback is much better- the dynamic contours and articulations are much improved from the previous version of NP. All of my compositions sound better now. If you can do it, I highly reccomend getting Synchron Prime. It comes with a Dorico playback template, too. I use a laptop running windows 10 with a 2.17 processor and 32g of Ram. Even my full orchestral works using Synchron Prime - with the VSL template or NPPE-run without a hiccup.

Please click the arrow on the instrument slot to open the settings. Next to “Advanced settings” there are three dots opening this menu, from which the Kontakt window can be opened:

Communication problem. I don’t mean to be thick but what instrument slot? Where is it? in dorico mixer? in NPPE loading place? in noterperf play E? Where do I find slot to click on arrow?

Has anyone used both the Synchron and Synchron Prime engines? Any opinions (other than the demo videos)? Wondering if it’s worth it to upgrade to the real deal.

I have the Synchronized SE library installed, but when I tried to use the limited “demo” version of NPPE it stopped loading at 3%, and nothing happened.

It loads my BBCSCO that I purchased. But it doesn’t seem to want to load Synchronized. (when I DLed the Playback Engine Trial mode it gave me a message saying that it had found and recognized the Synchronized library, so…)

I use both BBCSO Pro and Synchron Prime and both are excellent. Each has its own strengths. Synchron does take longer to load. I have both on an SSD together so I see the comparison.

Mike_999,

Just for balance, here is the 1st Contrast for Concert Band. The saxes are NP, the piano is Spitfire LABS “Autograph Grand”, and everything else is NPPE +Synchron Prime. I’m quite happy with Synchron and NP. Nothing is perfect, of course, but this works quite well.

Thank you, Gary, that is very kind! I am away from my home and computer right now but look forward to having a listen in the morning.

I’m not sure what that could be. Delays in loading the Synchron Player would usually be iLok-related, in my experience. When it doesn’t work for me, it’s either iLok or the content is on an external hard drive that’s not accessible by Synchron.

Our validation process only looks for the appropriate VST3 plug-in (Synchron Player). It will pass even if you don’t have the library, or it doesn’t work.

I would suggest adding a single NPPE slot from SE1. If that works, try opening the VST3 interface from the instrument slot to look for clues.

with me, a full orchestra with VSL SE loaded very quickly so your experience certainly isn’t typical.

@Wallander Might we have a hint of the timeline for the next little maintenance update to NP?

I presume you’re waiting a bit to make sure there are no major issues reported that would require yet another maintenance release?

hopefully we’re talking weeks, rather than months?

Probably during next week. We’re only giving users some time to report bugs.
