Omnivocal -- how to enter lyrics

“Simply enter notes and lyrics in the Cubase Key Editor”, the landing page says. I don’t see a way to enter lyrics – how do I do that?

It is in the video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKOiSedLP98&t=1s

Hi,

Select the MIDI Note and insert the text into the Text field of the Info Line.

There should be a way (s step entry) where you can insert all words one after another without having to click on each note.

Maybe words separated by “-” or “,”

Is there an easy way to select the next event ?
Right now I have to click the event, click the textfield, click the next event, click the text field etc.etc.

That’s a lot of clicking..

Hi,

You can place your mouse over the “Text” field in the Info View. Then you can double-click to insert the Text. Arrow Right (to select the next MIDI Note). Double-click to be able to insert the text. Type the text. Enter. Arrow Right (to select the next MIDI Note) (to select the next MIDI Note)…

Thank’s @Martin.

Actually I don’t need to doubleclick. A singleclick is enough.
Still a bit clumsy, though.

Hi,

I tried to investigate further. I was thinking of Score- or the List Editor. But it’s not possible to insert the text in these editors.

actually it is, I’ve just been trying it. In actual Dorico, the entry process is smoother, so I guess that’s where development might come from. Gotta respect the Beta status…

So, the solution to entering lyrics faster is spending $500 on Dorico Pro.

You can probably put lyrics into the free SE version of Dorico, but you know the score editor in Cubase is based on Dorico, right?

You cannot enter lyrics on Cubase’s new “based on Dorico” score editor. As a matter of fact, the lyrics you enter to have the plugin sing words don’t even show up in the score editor.

Omnivocal interprets the Text attribute of notes as Lyrics, whereas the Score Editor has a separate way of adding Lyrics, similar to Dorico (including the ability to have multiple syllables per note, or a word across multiple notes). This disconnect obviously isn’t great, and something we’re looking at improving in future.

The way you enter lyrics with the Score editor is about as slower, if not even slower if you’re going for single note edits, considering you have to select the Lyrics tool, then move to the score editor area and click on it even if a note is already selected, then enter your lyric. That small window then goes away and you have to repeat the step again. Sure, you can paste a full text of lyrics on that window but you then have to press ‘paste’ multiple times until all the lyric words are in the score.

Compare that with the regular Vocaloid or SynthV2, where you can paste full text in there and the program will parse it top to bottom and automatically add it to the notes with you only needing to tweak and edit it once it’s done.

May I ask if this Text attribute is a standard one of the MIDI Note On Event? Or is it a specific implementation in Cubase? Is it maybe a bundle between a Note On and a Meta-Text event?

Paolo

There is.

Hi,

If you Export > MIDI File and then import it back, the Text is empty.

Ouch. I would be incredibly eager to use Omnivocal with Dorico. Let’s see if they find a way to unify the text data.
