In the next version of Dorico, please, please include features making things simple for composing for organ with Garritan, Hauptwerk and other vsts. Organ is a very special instrument, multi keyboards, multitimbral unlike piano !

Thank you dko22. I didn’t understand at all that new PT are to be created in Engrave Mode !! (I never went there, it will be my first time !) What I did was to create an Expression map in Play mode and then tell the vst to use it. You gave me the missing step ! I will have a try asap.

My “Edit playing Techniques” Dialog box has not all these options :frowning: Where did you find the one you show in the screenshot ?

Found this interesting topic for people like me wanting to create expression maps for Aria Player : http://friendsofgarritan.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33&sid=e6432ad23fca07605d9c30b13e822a6e

you need to go into the Engrave tab → Playing techniques, not the one in the Play tab. I agree it’s confusing and I think the team are aware that a bit of a redesign is needed in this area of playing techniques and especially endpoints/playback configurations

I’ve created Ex maps and Dorico documents from which you can save your own endpoints and then create Playing Templates for GPO5 here: [image] Dorico Expression Maps for GPO5 Dorico Here are my Expression Maps for using GPO5 with Dorico. The package includes: documentation of what I’ve done, so that you can understand it and adapt it to your needs; a spreadsheet of what switches and CCs various instrument groups use, and which Brass instruments use which maps. There’s also a general-purpose Garritan Ex map, which should work (to some degree) for other Garritan libraries, such as the bundled Finale instruments. Let me know how you get on, and if there are any egregious pro… which may be useful.

Just to clarify, are we talking about playING techniques, or playBACK techniques? The former is created in write mode, and is a visual indication in the score, which links to a playBACK technique. Which speaks to the need for improved clarification that you already pointed out.

the playING techniques of course incorporate playBACK techniques. That’s why the PlayING Techniques from the Engrave menu (completely the wrong place for it imho but never mind) is the best place to create new ones so they appear in the score and there they can be linked to the appropriate playBACK techniques which is what you see in the Expression Maps and what you see in the tooltips when hovering with the mouse over the PlayING techniques in Write mode. Don’t worry, @Axel , it took me a while before I understood all this.

Indeed it is very confusing! Hopefully all of this will be clarified and unified in v4!
