While I’m on to you, I should mention that sampled instrument sounds, though nice to have, are not my priority. I’d be happy with the kind of midi / internal sounds of the laptop, if there was any way to choose those. I write mainly or only for classical guitar & just need a sound reference, not necessarily a realistic sound as I use Dorico exclusively to prepare for my publisher. On my old Sibelius 4 one could choose between the simple midi sounds or the sampled ones. Is there any way to go this in Dorico, in the meantime anyway?
-checked to see if Dorico pro 3.5.10 installer is downloaded & installed - yes.
-then uninstalled it and reinstalled it (but the problem remains)
-checked Ulf’s thread link - and downloaded, unzipped and double clicked the mentioned dump-config zip then opened Dorico, as requested. But that’s where I don’t understand your instruction anymore:

How do I check under mentioned path for a crash dump file? What do you mean by the “mentioned path” Where do I look? I have Dorico open but I don’t know where to look or what a crash dump file looks like!

Hi @Conall , sorry for being too concise with my instructions.
In regards to the path I mean, open a File Explorer window and into the address bar copy and paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps and press the enter key. That will take you to the location where Windows will put crash dump files when crashes happen. The files have .dmp as ending.
So when in Dorico you get the alert with A serious problem has occurred you change to File Explorer and check for a new dmp file. Such file zip up please and post here.
Additionally, please also install the Dorico Pro 3.5.10 Sounds Installer download package which can be found in the Steinberg Download Assistant next to the Dorico installer package. Without the sounds installer you won’t get any sound out of Dorico.
I hope these instructions are precise enough now. If not, please ask.
Here’s the problem i’m facing. I have no sound when i open a new project. I switch back to the previous project everything works fine. I go back to the new one again and no sound. Also, when i open Dorico a licensing window pops up a blocks me. No licensing window pops up when i go back to the previous project. Any words of encouragement on how to proceed?

Hi @chrisppff , to me that sounds like you have Silence playback template as default. Please open Dorico’s Preferences dialog and choose the Play tab. The first option there says what as the default value?
Furthermore, with the non-sounding project, when you do from the Dorico menu Play > Playback Template and then choose one of the template except Silence, do you get sound again?
Thank you so much for responding. On your suggestion i checked that and it was not in silent mode. I also just checked play mode in each project, and the VST instruments are missing in the new project. I noticed this because when i switched to the previous project from the new project a pop up window said it would take a moment to load the VST instruments. And when i first tried to open the new project a licensing notice pops up, which does not pop up when opening the previous project.

Please load the silent project and then do from the main menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and post the corresponding zip file here. Thanks
I’m using Dorico SE 5 The free version. So im confused about the licensing pop up. I tried to send the zip file. But its not being accepted here because its 8MB.

I sent you an email. I went through all of my Steinberg emails. There is no product code in any of them. Only a Steinberg ID number. When i watched the instruction video on how to license the number looks a lot longer.
So i don’t see the license number. Where do i get it?

Hi Chris,
thanks for the data. The logs show me that you have a Dorico SE 5 license, but your problem is following: You have installed both VSTinstruments HALion Sonic 7 and HALion 7, where the later is the full blown sampler and player and the former the smaller version, the only player version is.
In the Dorico SE 5 license is included a license for HALion Sonic 7 but not for HALion 7; for that one you need an extra license.
And the project that won’t play utters no sound because it was made using HALion 7, it can’t play anymore because the plug-in does not get loaded because of no valid license.
To rectify that, you need to go to the main menu and choose Play > Playback Template and choose a template that uses HALion Sonic instead. It would also be better to set such template as default (Preferences > Play > first option).
I have been busy so I have only returned to this problem now.
I have entered %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps and found the dmp files shown in the screenshot above and in the zipped folder with all dmp files (except the Wacom dmp files - which I know are not related).
I opened my Dorico 3.5 and I got this: “Halion Sonic SE - Some audio files are missing. Please check installation.” followed by the error message - see screenshot above. When I checked the Crash Dump folder there were no new dmp files (I tried today: 6th of May, and there are no dmp files newer than 1st of May and they are Wacom).
Re: installing Dorico Pro 3.5.10 Sounds Installer - I don’t see this in Steinberg Download Assistant. See screenshot - I am only offered an Update for VST sounds - Indian Drum Basics. All my Steinberg software on my new computer is listed in the screenshot of the apps that are installed on my computer. I don’t see Dorico Pro 3.5.10 Sounds Installer listed there either. How do I find this or is it under a different name on the my apps list? Do I have to put in a Download Access code into Steinberg Download Assistant? If so where do I find this again? I have forgotten how to obtain it or where to find it.
I am anxious to start using Dorico on my new computer. Please help!

thanks for the data, but the dump files are all unrelated to Dorico.
Please have instead a look at the path
C:\Users\conal\OneDrive\Documents\Steinberg\CrashDumps
and have there a look for dump files which have Dorico or AudioEngine in their name. Please zip them up and post here.
