Please get rid of the Red Outline while selecting clips in Nuendo

(Careful folks, beer from Belgium is expensive!!)

Silly question perhaps, but why is the line red?

It doesn’t bother me all that much but there needs to be some way to show what has been selected, and if you were using Cubase/Nuendo on a regular basis, you would want to be able to differentiate applications easily, without looking at title bars, and the like.

Okay, here’s a “political” compromise. Can we have the option to change the red outline to other colors? Not much rewriting of the code, everybody is happy, and I’ll be able to use red colors on audio files again.
No thanks necessary, just call me the Henry Kissinger of Nuendo users.

Taking my bow now…

Yes, yes, yes, and YES!!!

Or, at the very least make the red outline thicker, so it could be visually more visible.

Exactly!!

This whole red-box-to-show-selected-clips is a kludge which detracts from Nuendo’s otherwise sleek and modern-looking user interface. Most of all is the accessibility fail for the color blind. Can’t believe this hasn’t been fixed yet.

I am a dev as well and am not buying the excuse that it’s “technically impossible” to offer an option without a complete re-write.

You know… I personally have no practical problem with the red outline-- am used to it, have been comfortable with it.

But you make a very good point. It’s the least visible of all the options for the spectrum (no pun intended) of those who are colorblind. And I’d be willing to bet there are plenty of Cubendo users out there who experience at least some degree of colorblindness. With that in mind, I’m off the fence, and, knowing how common it is, am embarrassed for not having thought of this myself.

So, what are you insinuating?
That the dev’s simply refuse to copy/paste the Cubase Option into Nuendo?
Computer says “no”?

I repeat: There is an incompatibility between the Red Outline and the Cubase-way.
If they want both (as an option) within the application, one of both needs to be re-written.

It is standard procedure that during the cycles of the application, older parts of the application get re-written, to avoid spagetti-code. So at some point that part will get a re-write too, and then you’ll get the option to switch between both.

Let’s see what N12 brings us.

My last comment on this:

What annoys me the most is that this is nothing but a political issue from the Cubase cross-graders.
I’ve been on these forums for about two decades.
In these 20 years, I cannot remember any complaints about the red outline.
And now it suddenly has become a life threatening issue.

I understand and respect that people prefer the Cubase-way of displaying a selected item.
But it is not a make-or-break deal.
If there is one constant in my + 30years career, then it is that you have to make your tools work for you. Don’t ever get stuck in personal workflows. Always try to find other, faster ways of doing things. Learn and adapt. Every day. Stop complaining, deal with it. Make it work.

It is obvious that I am getting old.

More users means more exposure to problem points which may have previously flew under the radar. (Same reason why not all bugs are exposed during a beta program.)

As has been mentioned before, this is not merely a cosmetic preference, but an accessibility issue. Check out item #s 23-25 of the top Google result for “software accessibility”: https://www.justice.gov/crt/software-accessibility-checklist

|Color|23. Does the software ensure that color-coding is never used as the only means of conveying information or indicating an action?
|Color|24. Does the application support user-defined color settings system-wide?|
|Color|25. Is highlighting also viewable with inverted colors?|

Wrong. I started on Nuendo. Still using Nuendo. This “thin red line” has been an issue from the beginning.

It is annoying and slows down work flow. My workaround was to never use the color red on anything because then the outline is invisible. So I use lots of blues and greens and grays and whatever else I can find.

Agreed.

I have successfully cross-graded from Cubase 10.5, and am very happy.

The 60 day trial got me through SB’s database issues and now I am on a new train!

Looking forward to new features in Nuendo FIRST, and not the other way around

Cheers everyone

My optometrist tells me I am “Color impaired”. I can see colors, not all the various shades. I can see the colors in EVERY other music software. I can see what audio clips I have selected. But I do not use any other softwares out there for my daily production work, I use the best (for me) which is Nuendo. So please, can we have the option to either make that thin red line thicker or have the option (if we get this I will know Jesus has come back) to highlight the clips ala Cubase. Amen.

I just pray that this will be an option and we are not forced into using inverted color style selection.

Yes, it’s an option. 16’00" in the preview video. Nuendo 12 World Premiere | Streamed Event - YouTube
