Please Please, could you urgently fix any issues related to exporting first

Many people in the forum have reported that freezing often occurs Render In Place and exporting, and one solution is to mute the video track.

Other issues related to usage habits may be gradually adapted to, but exporting, as the final step in the entire workflow, always causing problems is truly unworkable. Especially for Nuendo, which is used for film and television post-production, where content lengths are generally measured in hours, exporting issues are extremely frustrating

Please, can we first address this exporting issue? Please

True, this is important.

Can you share a simple project where this happens? Do you have a clear step by step procedure which causes a Freeze every time? Do you have a freeze dump which you can post here?

I’m experiencing the exact same behavior on Nuendo 15:

  • Export always freezes at the very end (last 2–3 seconds)

  • The exported file is created but missing those last seconds

  • Nuendo becomes unresponsive, I have to force quit

  • Same issue happens with Render In Place

:backhand_index_pointing_right: After reading your suggestion, I tried muting the video track, and it completely solved the problem on my end.

So this definitely seems linked to the video engine.

Just adding my confirmation here in case it helps others or gives more weight to the issue. Hopefully Steinberg can address this soon because it’s pretty critical for post workflows.

Thanks again :folded_hands:

I just ran into another freeze issue with Nuendo 15, this time during a very basic operation.

:red_exclamation_mark: Steps:

  • Select all events (Ctrl + A)

  • Copy Time (Ctrl + Shift + C)

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Nuendo instantly freezes and becomes completely unresponsive.
Had to force quit.

There is no such function. What function are you referring to?

What exact same behaviour? As far as I can tell, no precise steps with a clear and repeatable result has been defined in this topic. Also, so far no freeze dump has been posted here.

  • Do you have a clear step-by-step procedure which causes a Freeze every time?
  • What plug-ins (if any) are in use at the time of the freeze?
  • What settings are used for RIP or Export Audio Mixdown at the time of the freeze?
  • Can you share a simple project where this happens every time?
  • Do you have a freeze dump which you can upload to this topic?
  • What platform are you using (Windows 10, 11, MacOS)?

FYI this bug has also been reported here:Nuendo 15 - official bug/issue collection thread - #19 by MaxRod Unfortunately, that report also does not include a reliable step-by-step procedure to make the freeze happen and does not include a freeze dump. Such a procedure and a freeze dump might help find the bug.

Edit –> Global Copy

Hi Stingray, thanks for jumping in.

Yes, on my side I do have a simple repeatable case.

Platform

  • Windows 11

Project setup / steps

  1. Open a new empty project in Nuendo 15

  2. Import 1 video file

  3. Make a duplicate of that video event

  4. Create a Marker Track

  5. For each video event, create a Cycle Marker

  6. Name both cycle markers

Export settings

  • Go to Export Audio Mixdown

  • File location: Desktop

  • Format: WAV

  • 48,000 Hz

  • 24-bit

  • Interleaved

  • Export Range: Cycle Markers

  • Select both markers

Additional info

  • No effects applied

  • No VST / VST3 plugins in use

  • Tempo is fixed, no tempo changes

Result

Nuendo freezes during export, at the very beginning of the process.

Sorry, just trying to give as much info as possible to help narrow this down.

Quick update from my side:

I re-ran the exact same test project 3 times in a row, and this time it actually exported successfully without freezing.

However, I then tried a different action:

  • Went to Replace Audio in Video

  • Clicked the small arrow next to File Path to change the export location

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Nuendo 15 froze instantly, before even starting the export process, and before even letting me choose the new location.

This makes me wonder if it could be related to disk access / sleeping HDD behavior on Windows.

Normally, when changing file location, there is a small delay and you can hear the HDD spin up.
Here, nothing happens at all, just an immediate freeze.

Not sure if this is relevant, but sharing in case it helps narrow it down further.

Thanks again :folded_hands:

@TNT991 thanks for the detailed step-by-step. Followed that meticulously with Windows 11 but so far cannot reproduce the freeze during export.

Sorry but no freeze with that here, so far.

Not seeing a freeze with that here.

Rather than taking the user immediately to the ‘Choose Location’ dialogue, clicking on the small arrow opens a pop-up button - clicking on this takes you to a ‘Choose Location’ dialogue… I may have made an operational error. Will have to try again later.

Thanks for checking!

Just to follow up, it does seem this is actually a known issue/bug in Nuendo 15. I found this thread where other users are reporting very similar behavior:

https://forums.steinberg.net/t/nuendo-15-render-un-place-doesnt-work-properly/1027884/14

The symptoms match quite closely:

  • Freezes during export / Render In Place

  • Issues tied to video-related workflows

So even if it doesn’t reproduce 100% of the time or on every system, it looks like there is definitely something unstable in this area.

On my side, the behavior is inconsistent but clearly reproducible under certain conditions, especially when video is involved.

Thanks again for taking the time to test :folded_hands:
