"Position end of hairpin" set to "right" incorrectly adds a dash after "cres-cen-do"

“Position end of hairpin” set to “right” incorrectly adds a dash after “cres-cen-do” lines with “final syllable at end of line” enabled. Please see the attached screenshot for an explanation of what happens.

After all problems I’ve had (and reported: 1, 2, 3), it feels to me a bit like a beta functionality that is not yet intended to be used in real-world scenarios. I hope this area will get a few fixes, because I’m eager to use it.

I’m unable to reproduce the result that you show in your image. To help me to reproduce it so I can investigate, please attach a project that reproduces the problem.

@dspreadbury I’m sorry, I hid the invisibles in the screenshot, which I just found out are important to reproduce it:

Thank you so much for looking into it! Please note that for “final syllable at end of line” to play back AND have some space between the final syllable and the next immediate dynamic, as it is often used, an invisible dynamic is needed. So this is for me the default usage and not some obscure scenario. The semantically better solution, using a crescendo line up until the next immediate dynamic and a negative “end offset” x value in Engrave mode to create more space between them, is currently broken in Dorico.

Since the dynamic is hidden, why not flip it?

This should allow the dotted line to extend to the next bar.

Thanks very much for the project, which allows me to reproduce the issue. We’ll look into this further in due course.
