Prologue Factory Presets

Hi
I’m using Cubase 14 pro and I’ve got Prologue to import into the VST Instruments OK
When i open Prologue there are no presets.
I have Cubase 8.5 and i can see them there. (So they are on my pc)
How do I get them to appear in Cubase 14 ?
Is there a library I have to copy ?

Try opening the Load dialog, click the gear icon, top right, check the filters and location tree, de-select Prologue and selecting “Keep”. Then select it again. That worked for me, and included my presets, too.
EDIT!
Note that the path to the presets in that last dialogue is a virtual path, not a real one.

I’ve checked the folder prologue using windows explorer and it’s empty

Where are the factory prologue presets

Have you followed the steps I outlined?
The factory presets are either in a vstsound file or are in the dll, either way, they are not accessible via the explorer. Maybe some one can prove me wrong?

User presets are here: [Documents]\VST3 Presets\Steinberg Media Technologies\Prologue

If I recall it correctly you can copy the synthengine.vst3 from an older version into the same folder of your current version (e.g. C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 14\VST3 > synthengine.vst3). This way you can open the synths within your current version but you can’t access any presets because of compatability reasons.

This folder exists but it is empty…

Please correct me if I’m wrong @Googly_Smythe - maybe I just misread your step by step instruction. It really works on your rig?

My screenshots demonstrate that the factory presets are available. Only User presets are saved in the Documents folder, at least, that’s where they are on my machine, and Prologue can see them. Same applies to Mystic and Spectre (Spectore?)

There is a folder here
C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\VST Sound\VST Sound Updates\OAMDGVLL2UJQFAIQ2G8S7F1EK0-Prologue_Library.vstsound
that may, I say may, contain presets. Search for “prolog”.

I found the Prologue files, followed your instructions but I’m afraid it doesn’t work here on my C14 Win11 rig.

Have you by any chance activated VST2s in the plugin manager? I just tried and it froze C14 for the first time ever. I rather not repeat that here…

I have, because some (much, much!) older projects of mine still use them. It’s a pain to open a project and it can’t find it plugins because they’re VST2.
But, as you can see, Prologue, Mystic and Spector are all VST3.

Just noticed, and it may not make a difference, but the Prologue folder isn’t open.

Yeah, I tried - you can’t open it. I also tried all sorts of combinations.

Prologue is definetly VST3 as you have proved (some older plugins sometimes shared the same code no matter if it was VST2 or VST3 - that’s why I thought about it).
There are some older threads somewhere around here - maybe you wanna post your solution there, too, since it obviously works on your side. I am sure you would put a big smile on some people’s faces with your discovery since noone managed to load presets in C13/14 until now (if I am not mistaken…). Please correct me if I’m wrong!

That’s empty
I think that’s the user presets.

I don’t know what to say to that.

If I come across them, I will.
Strange, how it works for some and not others. I haven’t done anything other than copy the synthengine dll from Cubase 11 (it’s dated 01/06/2017 (English style!)), and forced a re-read of the presets via the dialog.

Haha, sometimes Cubase works in mysterious ways :innocent:
Good for you @Googly_Smythe and others who want to keep working with Prologue and Co - that’s a beacon of light :+1:
Since I can’t risk another freeze and don’t need Prologue in the first place I won’t investigate any further and leave it to others. You’ve provided a blueprint and proved that it’s doable - what else can you ask for?

What I’ve done is, Open Prologue In Cubase 8.5.
I can see all the presets
If I save a preset it must be storing it as a user preset.
If i open Prologue in Cubase 14 I can see the presets that I saved in Cubase 8.5
It still remains a mystery where the factory presets are.

My money is on this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\VST Sound\VST Sound Updates
and these files:
F10MEQLMA0G8UQ6I8IP4A0B4D7-Prologue_Discoveries.vstsound
OAMDGVLL2UJQFAIQ2G8S7F1EK0-Prologue_Library.vstsound
If you find them, double-click on them both to register them.
The dates on my copies are from November last year, which is when I did my last re-install (next one at Christmas, for the New Year, probably Win 11).

Thanks
I’ll have a look tomorrow

Hi
I found the files which make sense now as Prologue preset menus work fine in Cubase 8.5 and I’ve just tried my other machine and the same with Cubase 10.5. If i try in Cubase 13 and 14 i’ve noticed the menu blinks and the two panes are empty.
So I can only see user presets that I’ve manualy save using Cubase 8.5
The problems seems to be with the later versions of Cubase menu system

Hi @Googly_Smythe ,
I forgot to post that I already tried double-clicking on these two prologue library files in order to be recognized by the Steinberg Library Manager. A message appeared saying no action took place cause they were previously registered and scanned by the SLM already.

It still appears to be the old incompatability issue with factory presets. User presets can be saved and recalled just fine.
Are you 100% certain that your presets are factory presets? Don’t take this the wrong way - if you say so then I’m good knowing that you are an experienced user :+1:

If your approach was reproducable on other systems that’ll be grand for fans of these old synths. I am at my wits end, no idea why this works on your rig but not mine…
