While I don’t mind Cubases insert routing editor, the integration in many cases could be better for example, if wanting to set up Linked Parameter Dual-Mono. It’s a bit clunky to get set up.
I think my idea for an integrated plugin matrix insert for Cubase, is a predominant competitive pathway that should be explored pronto by development:

Not to rain on your parade, but I have a feeling that anyone who knows they would need something like this probably already has a solution to enable this in Cubase (such as Blue Cat’s PatchWork) – or they’ll just use Reaper.
Yeah I know, everyone always suggests those plugins but, DAW integration is much better. Better management, less problems, better integration, better visibility/plugin access, better UI etc, etc.
It’s a feature that has long been provided by these plugin developers, that IMO, in 2026 should just be integrated into the DAW to meet professional workflow and stability needs.
It’s the convenience – I can save my presets in PatchWork though, and then they work in every DAW the same way.
I’m not knocking the idea, but wondering whether integrating it in Cubase would just make the whole routing even more complex, when it can be solved with a plug-in.
I’m not using multiple primary DAWs in a way that I would need to transfer those multi-channel setups… I would think most people aren’t… but maybe I’m wrong on that.
If that’s a need for you, then certainly, the plugins provide that capability so maybe you wouldn’t use the feature.
But for everyone else, they either have to pay money for those plugins, or make due with the current insert router which is a bit janky and doesn’t provide linking.
Also those 3rd party solutions may not work or be developed in the future. A native solution would be coded in Cubase and stay there.
It’s a bit weird this all singing and dancing “Digital Audio Workstation” cannot emulate the functionality of a patchbay.
