Remote Control Editor Issues, random assignments

Hello, I am trying to set up a remote control editor for a specific vst so I can have more assign more than 8 knobs on my midi controller. I’ve tried doing this for several VST’s and the issue is the same. I first activate the remote controller editor for that plugin, in this case Legend HZ. I do this by pressing the down arrow button on the right of the plugin. I do the learn function and map out all of my controls. I like to go from left to right, top to bottom. I then went to the mapping assistant, add all of my knobs from my roto control, and then selected each one by assigning the selected track > Instrument > Parameter 1, etc.

And no matter what, knob 1 controls like the 5th or 6th knob on the plugin, and it’s kind of random for all the other ones.

What am I doing wrong here?

Hi, there is a known issue with parameters assignments in the remote control editor not updating instantly, i.e. when we edit the grid. However, if you add a new instance of the plugin in your project or after restarting Cubase, they should be OK. Have you already tried that?

@m.c I restarted it a few times and it’s still not working. Perhaps I’m missing a step. Do I need to open up anything before I can my use my dials? and do I need to save it as a template?

@m.c Is there any way to go beyond focused track quick controls when you need more than 8 macros?

Sorry, not quite sure I understand. By macros, you mean?

@m.c Well I love quick controls, but it only gives you 8 macros that I can assign to a controller. If I want to fully map out synths like Serum, or inserts that have a lot more dials than 8, how do I achieve this in Cubase?

You already done it half way
I see in your screenshot earlier, that you’ve already assigned parameters 1-8 to your controller. What’s missing is the previous/next bank of parameters. By assigning these to two buttons of your controller, you can browse previous/next, so you can control as many parameters as you want.
Now, if your controller has more than 8 encoders you can even adjust in the Setup section of the instrument plugin slot, the number of parameters per bank to be controlled.

Ok perfect, yes I did that. So in fact, the only way is to do it via the remote control editor! Got it. But that issue of the controls not being saved and backwards as you first mentioned remains. Ohwell, I guess I’ll leave this one alone for a bit. I hope Cubase makes the selected focus QC more than 8 parameters one day because those just work and work well.

I mentioned that this is the case the very first time you setup the parameters in the remote control editor. Upon setting up a new track with the same plugin, it should work, and so it should upon restarting Cubase. Do you still face this issue?

Yes same issue.

This is bad. You do see assignments to the MIDI Remote surface, right? If so, this probably means that the mapping you prepare in the remote control editor is lost. By the way, do you hit apply, upon changing the parameters matrix?

I also have issues with the RCE parameters. Cubase 15.

I have both mac and windows in the studio. On windows I can change control on the parameters. I do have to unload and load the plugin to get the changes working.

On the mac (m1) It is a no go. Even closing and opening cubase dosent make the changes take effect.

My setup is 24 parameters per page/bank.

Just to be clear. After restarting Cubase, If you open the plugin window, and then remote control editor, do you see the new mapping you’ve made or a previous one? I’m not talking about what looks assigned in the MIDI Remote.

I see the new mapping but no effect. Looks fine on the surface but it is just for show. No effect under the hood. It is a bug, so we all should just report it. Windows is ok, but should ofcourse auto update the script even if plugin is running.

If everything shows up as expected, then what happens next? I mean, you turn your physical knob 1 for example, what happens? Nothing? Doesn’t the knob turn inside the MIDI Remote UI?

The knobs, buttons and fader control parameter 1-24 as assigned in midi remote but they just control RCE default layout. No effect from Changes done to the RCE.

So the Remote Control Editor shows the NEW configuration, however the MR controls the OLD one (Default), right?

Yes RCE shows the new config. But In short the RCE dosent translate/bridge the new assignments to the script. So every plugin parameter is stuck at default cc.

Inside the Remote Control Editor, did you perhaps choose the 24 cells per page configuration?

In this case, Cubase generates a new xml named Generic 24 Cells.xml. MIDI Remote reads only the Generic 8 Cells.xml one. This doesn’t affect how you setup your controller, it will still control 24 parameters, which will be the first 3 rows of 8 cells.

Yes did that. and set the midi remote to bank by 24 parameters (3x8).

It works fine on windows by unloading the plugin and reloading it after mapping the RCE. But on the mac it just dosent work at all. There is a bug.
