Selecting only one instrument still plays back both. This is not an issue with the strings group or winds, but the combination of instruments in the example is.

I’m not at my machine currently but have you tried reapplying the Playback Template?
Now I have. Didn’t work.
You only have a single note in each instrument. Dorico has a heuristic for whether or not it thinks you’re really trying to play only one instrument. Add another note in e.g. the tuba part and then select them both and play back, and you should find only the tuba part plays back.
Could you please explain the Dorico feature in a different way? I don’t understand.
What if I want to have only one note and I want to hear what it sounds like? Can’t you just tell Dorico not to think like that?
If you select one note, Dorico will think “Play from here” rather than “Play this instrument from here”.
To do the latter, you need to select more than one note in that staff. Or if you want to hear combinations of instruments then you need to select a note in each staff that you want to hear.
You can also use Alt+S, the shortcut for Play > Solo Selected Instruments, to solo just the selected instrument. Don’t forget to undo that with Shift+Alt+S, the shortcut for Play > Reset All Solo States.
Thanks, Daniel! That worked.
