Sexburga! (N E W Music)

This is a work in progress, I wanted to get some feedback from my peers and betters.
The music is not finished, and is unbalanced, but I wanted to know your opinion of the tone of the track. Is it too bright? Not bright enough? I’ve used the HEARS plugin to help me get the tone right, because I usually sear people’s eardrums with my cymbals.
My first new, “original”, track in 3 years.
I’m sure I’ve ripped off Prince of Egypt…

St. Sexburga - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online

Hi Googly,

Overall the mix is OK and the tone is good. The cymbals are a little elevated but not overly so I would say. I see that as being part of your musical style rather than anything too wrong with mix - it’s your personal signature and should be applauded. It would be so bad if we all sounded the same. I look forward to hearing the finished mix.

Hey, thanks for the feedback.
I do love cymbals - I’m of the Keith Moon style of drum thrashing!
I hope to finish the piece in a week or so. It’s a struggle.

Sexburga lol is that a reference to a furburga lol . The music is brilliant as always, the tone is a little bright like you already suggested first in your question about the mix. the cymbals are a little prominent,I haven’t heard of that Hears plugin but will have a look at it .I’ve found with plugins that are supposed to give a finished tone to your final mix always tend to make it brighter somehow,I wonder if they give it a smiley eq curve ,the people who program these things must think people must always mix too dark or something. Anyway the tone isn’t as good as your previous posts ,but your music is always top notch .

You’re too kind. But it’s true, ha ha!

The piece is still in it’s early stages, so it is very rough. Another week or two before it’s finished.

If I ramp up the volume I can just hear about hear them. But I’ll lower the cymbal bus by a dB or 2.

She’s a saint who wanted some peace and quiet - I like to think she wanted it to do some head banging!

It’s a plugin for the Control Room, so it has zero impact on what gets rendered. I started thread about it here. It’s for those of us with less than average hearing.

PS I’m not affiliated with them in any way! I just think it’s a great tool for the partially deaf.

If they do a trial version,I will try it out . My ears have been abused by drummers crash cymbals over the years and ear phone abuse and I suppose I’ve never noticed my ears deteriorate but the mixes I did years ago sounded tonally more balanced than they do now .

I had a fright last year when I went to see guitarist gregg koche at Fat lils in witney, Oxford. I came out of there deaf in my left ear ,it lasted for about 3 months ,I found out it was an instant wax covering of my ear drum which had turned solid it did come loose eventually after the doctor put me on some steroids,I don’t know how that cleared it but it did. Funny thing is Gregg Koch wears ear plugs when he’s playing, maybe he should take them out and just turn it down lol

There’s a trial, 14 days, I think. You’ll need to open an account though.

:+1:That’s no problem,it’s usually the case .
