I have another keyboard shortcut issue - it is probably me as I have recently switched to Mac from Windows and am still wrestling with the change. I have a brand new MBP M4 Max running Sequoia 15.2.
It’s nothing too serious, just annoying - during playback, when I want to start from the beginning of the Flow in Windows, I pressed Shift Alt and Space as a short cut. On this Mac, nothing happens and the shortcut is not listed under the Play menu.
As I said, nothing too serious - just inconvenient and, I presume, I have not set it up correctly - any ideas?
Thanks. Pete
That’s the shortcut for scrubbing the selected part(s) only.
Shift Space will play from the start of the Flow.
Thank you - but Shift Space plays from the last starting place on mine, not beginning of flow!
I’ve moved your post to a new topic, @Seapaddler, as it’s clearly completely separate to the issue @francisb is experiencing.
We changed the default shortcuts in Dorico 5 to make Shift+Alt+Space trigger scrub playback instead of playing back from the start of the flow. You can make these changes yourself if you wish, in the Key Commands page of Preferences. (Just search for “start of flow”.)
Thank you Daniel - just me being silly and too busy to notice any changes. I will try to change the shortcuts now.
Hi Daniel.
Did as you said - but the shortcut was already there? However, it still doesn’t work and, despite going through the process again, deleting the shortcut for the key command, replacing it with Shift Option Space, and then Apply, it is not working and neither is it visible as a shortcut next to Start of Flow in the Play drop-down menu.
I am quite sure this is all down to me doing something wrong
Even more bizarre - now, when I put in a search item in Preferences, after pressing Return, the Preference Dialogue box closes and I cannot search?
What could I have done wrong?
You are absolutely right – sorry. Shift Space plays from the Last Playback point.
I can also confirm that Play from start of flow still seems to have the old key command:
… but Scrub Playback takes precedence. You should be able to assign something else to Play from Start of Flow.
Weirdly, scrub key commands don’t seem to be forthcoming with the correct keys, even though scrubbing works as expected for me.
Perhaps Enter is pressing “OK” in the dialog and closing the whole window. You shouldn’t need to press Enter: just enter the text and it will automatically filter the commands as you type.
Now - when I try to add a Key Command, the dialogue box is greyed out and the options for playback have disappeared on the left?
Can you provide a screenshot of exactly what you’re seeing?
Second time lucky
The left column is empty because there is no preference category called playback.
To search for key commands, use the search box above the second column.
When you have found the command that you want to create a shortcut for: click the (grey) Press shortcut box, then press your chosen key combination, and finally click the (grey) Add key command box.
It will neither let me enter keystrokes in the box nor respond to the Add Key Command
If you click the Press Shortcut button, does a blue border appear around it?
Ha - hadn’t noticed that. But yes, blue border. I type the KC in that box, press Add Key Command, then Apply. Then… nothing. Go back into the menu, and the KC is not there! Rinse and repeat to the same (non) effect
Do you have to quit Dorico to get these KCs to work? Have tried to map other key combinations and, despite puhing Apply - nothing?
You don’t need to restart Dorico after changing your key commands. Make sure you click in the edit box that says Press shortcut, type your shortcut, then click the Add Key Command button immediately to the right, so that your custom shortcut appears in the box immediately below. Then click Apply at the bottom of the dialog, and then click Close.
