I have set up 7-part strings for playback in Kontakt 7 (the synth is LA Scoring Strings Lite 2). I used one player instance with 7 patches inside it. Each patch is set to output to a different MIDI channel. The Dorico mixer shows each instrument separately.
Despite this, I cannot solo or mute the individual instruments. Soloing one plays them all, and muting one doesn’t mute anything. However, they do each respond correctly to dynamic messages on MIDI controller 1.
What’s wrong with my setup? Do I have to use 7 separate instances of Kontakt player?
I have no idea. It seems to be “working” fine now in terms of each channel having its own patch and controllers, and the volume sliders work independently. The only thing that doesn’t work is the soloing and muting, which leads me to believe something deeper is wrong.
Have you set the Kontakt outputs (it’s an additional window) so that each Kontakt instrument is sent to its own fader in Dorico? I posted a tip about that some time ago…
When you play the piece, look at the Dorico mixer where you say there are faders for all the instruments in this Kontakt instance. Do all mixer levels of each track react to the notes on their track respectively? What I see is the first two instruments are outputting to st. 1, instead of st.2 for the second instrument, so if you only have those two tracks/instruments playing they should be either both playing in the same mixer fader level, if they are both set to st. 1 or independently on two faders.
Also from your screenshot are you using the same samples for 1 and 2, is this for 1st and 2nd violins?
