I need a beat calculator!
I haven’t bought v13 yet. But is it the case that if you hit tap tempo, that will change the project tempo? That is TERRIBLE! If you do that by mistake and don’t notice, you would knock audio out of line. What we had with beat calculator is a way to load a file, tap along to see what the tempo is, WITHOUT changing project tempo. Someone here said use tempo detection but that will take longer I reckon. I think having a tap tempo button on the transport that can change project tempo is a dangerous thing. It should be optional. (Maybe it is. Can it be hidden?).
I have so far found it useless… and as you said it is a TERRIBLE solution.
You can not, as far as I can tell, tap the tempo at playback without it inserting a tempo change at wherever the cursor is at.
We need to be able to tap along to get the tempo WITHOUT changing the project tempo.
I will check it out some more… buy it’s either a bug, not a finished feature (if so it shouldn’t have been released), or one really big workflow killer… Hmmm?
Hi,
There are some improvements coming in the 1st maintenance update.
Steinberg, bring back beat calculator.
Formatting mine … if it unavoidably change the project tempo, I don’t think it really is easy like that.
That’s not a replacement for beat detector, since beat detector didn’t change the project tempo.
Or am I missing a basic concept?
Thanks -
@steinberg is there an approximate date when the beat calculator will be back?
This is absolutely bonkers! What did the BPM Calculator ever do to you, Steinberg? It was a very useful feature and you replaced with an abysmally useless one. I even had a shortcut assigned to it, ctrl+backspace. There isn’t a single project where I don’t use it. Imagine my surprise when this didn’t work. Why are you crippling your own software like that?
It’s like Adobe removing the clone tool because we now have some other AI tools. No!!! Please stop removing features!
Exactly. Tap tempo CANNOT be thought of as any replacement for the quick, convenient usefulness of this little utility tool Beat Calculator.
I’m with “bring back Beat Calculator” team!
Absolutely confounded that this was removed. Please bring it back pronto.
Another vote to bring it back.
If you click on a midi track it seems to change the tempo of the midi timing and leave project alone, but if you are clicked on an audio track it changes the BPM on the entire song…
It would be useful as an extra feature - but I agree, beat calculator is really handy when you need it.
So, at the same time people are going more and more for daw controllers (and even after years of key shortcuts) to avoid excessive mouse clicks, you take away a very useful function and substitute it with inefficient, imprecise and repetitive… mouse clicking?
Ive used the little black button and clicking it with a mouse is not as accurate as hitting the space bar. ( pretty soulless way of getting a beat).
Also allowing it to shift the project time immediately is not good.

This Tap Tempo function is surely just a guide and not something that you’d use in any serious way to tempo out a project? There are phone apps that work fine if you just need a quick ball park figure. The idea that tapping destructively edits your tempo track seems nuts to me.
Got C13 trial on splice (why not to run a trial through activation manager?)
Tap function is a nightmare
Stupid useless feature that totally ruins your project in one click. It should not exist!
Bring Beat Calculator back , otherwise you force me to stay without updates or even look for alternative DAW
I don’t use beat calculator at all, but haha looks like Steinberg removed it because they assumed every musician out there just uses only 1 kind of tempo, and mostly 4/4
