(SOLVED) Bluetooth audio headphones/buds etc has been broken in version 3.8

Hi Lars,

After the update you can no longer use bluetooth audio (headsets). When using your bluetooth headphone you get terrible sound coming out, suspecting that the headphones mic getting activated and ruin the sound completely.

Have tested several headphones and earbuds and its all the same, headset microphone is active all the time and totally ruins the sound somehow. I tried restarting iPad, tried new project with both built in piano and au pianos and other instruments. When disconnect bluetooth audio sound is normal again.

This have always worked just fine before update. Now it seems the only temporary solution to this is to use wired headphone which ruins the freedom of portability and a cable free setup. please look into this it’s very disapointing. I guess we are many that wants to use our wireless headphones/buds etc when making our music.

Best Regards

Hi @Sinistersnake

As @CutNGlue already mentioned, we’re aware about the Bluetooth audio headphone issue and hope to have a fix available early in 2026.

Please try the following workaround to see if it helps resolve the issue for now:

  1. Go to Setup > Audio
  2. Tap Input in the Input & Output section.
  3. Select iPhone or iPad microphone (depending on the device you’re using).

This should help resolve the issue and provide high-quality playback when using Bluetooth headphones.

Best regards,
Lars

I can only choose my BT headset in the input/output list/drawer on my iPad M1, there is nothing else to choose, i have a separate OUTPUT button but no INPUT button.

But good that this have been noticed, i hope it will be resolved soon!

Hi @Sinistersnake

Please follow the steps shown in this clip (download link expires in a few days):

Hi Lars and thx for your fast responses.

I have tried your solution you sended, but problem is that i dont have those alternatives in the list, only thing that shows is my Sennheiser headphone PXC-550 with built in mic, also tried others like sony in-ear buds ans Sennheiser momentum 4 TWS. Only thing that appears the headsets themselves maybe because it’s not airpods which may integrate in other ways on IOS i don’t know.

Hi @Sinistersnake

It is important to choose the iPhone or iPad mic in the input section. This worked successfully for other users as well.

Lars

Hi Lars,

Im using iPad OS version 18.7.1 and below is the alternatives with and without Bluetooth Headphones/Buds connected.

Input & Output devices/drawer ”WITHOUT” any bluetooth devices connected

Top mic - Omni, Back mic subcardioid, Back mic stereo, Front mic cardioid, Front mic stereo.

OUTPUT (button) - iPad only

Input & Output devices/drawer ”WITH” Sennheiser PXC-550 connected

PXC-550

OUTPUT (button) - iPad, Bluetooth PXC550

Did several tests today with my BT audio and new projects and sound is terrible and crashes with high pitch noise as result. When using just iPad sound or using headphones with cable and external usb soundcard everything is just fine. Bluetooth headphones works as it should in all other applications ex spotify, youtube, AUM etc.

Best regards

I have multiple issues with audio input since the cubasis 3.8 update. If you connect my Sony WH1000-MX 3 headphones via Bluetooth to my iPad (iOS 18.7.3) they work perfectly u til you open cubasis ( no need to load a project as problem appears on opening cubasis to the project hub page) as soon as cubasis opens sound quality degrades to unusable for cubasis or any other app ie spotify, as soon as I close cubasis quality returns to normal for all apps . within cubasis audio settings you can see the sample rate change from 48khz to 16 khz at the exact moment you get the Bluetooth connected message in the headphone. If you try to reset to 48khz you get an error message , sample rate not supported by your hardware or app blocking sample rate even though cubasis is the only app open. The bigger issue for me though is that since the 3.8 update I no longer get any sound input from my Rode microphone via my focusrite iTrack dock, input and output are set to iTrack dock in cubasis audio settings automatically ( there are no other options unless I unplug the iPad from the dock) but there is no sound received at the cubasis audio channel even though I can monitor on the interface using direct monitor so I know the sound is arriving at the interface. All the functions described above were working perfectly two days ago using cubasis 3.7.8 so am in no doubt that the update has somehow introduced these issues. Any guidance would much appreciated as I use cubasis daily.

Hi @Dixster,

We are aware of the problem, and our engineering is currently evaluating the reported issues, which are planned to be addressed in upcoming updates.

Please take a look at my reply above and follow the suggested steps to work around the issue. You can also check our dedicated Cubasis 3.8 Issues and Solutions article for more details.

Best regards,
Lars

Thanks Lars , hopefully this will get resolved with the next update especially the no sound via the Focusrite iTrack dock as that’s the killer for me as no workaround for that issue that I can see.

Hi Lars , at your suggestion I took the plunge with IpadOS 26.2 update and within cubasis/settings/audio the “input device” tab has now appeared ( only output device showed previously) so now I can select the iPad microphone in the selection box which appears which has resolved the Bluetooth headphone issue and also within that selection box I can now select my Focusrite interface so my microphone works again  - Thank you for your advice much appreciated.
