You got my hopes up… no GPU rendering here

GPU spikes have decreased.
GPU RAM jumps by over 2GB, but no processing
No more blank/empty tracks

But the fact that GPU rendering is not supported on Macs so far is nothing new and has been discussed here several times, including explanations as to why, so I don’t understand your surprise in this matter, especially since your anger wasn’t expressed in a very objective manner.
It remains to be seen what improvements await us in future. Have you read the release notes?
I think your suggestion regarding GPUs acceleration on Mac is well known to the devs.
With a hopeful eye on what’s to come, I wish you patience until the next release or good luck with your support request.
As I said, works flawless here on AMD CPU and GPU.
You have at least 8Gb graphics card memory, have you?
Heres what im getting with the 12.0.10 update and the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti with driver Ver 577.00. There has been alot of improvements particularly with the speed of the spectral display redrawing.Real time preview of modules is better but still not upto the SL 11 standard.Ive noticed a big improvement in the VST3 module where in ver 12.0.0 some plugin GUI`s would not re-open after you close them. Some plugins would crash cubase when you try to apply them. All seems to be working ok now. The only really big problem now seems to be the lack of GPU acceleration on the AI modules.I did a screen grab of my hardware monitor whilst doing a small unmix song task on the stand alone version (pic below). The monitor shows a 94% cpu load whilst at the same time the GPU load actually dipped but strangely there was a GPU memory load of 59%.Apart from this the SL update in ARA mode has been very stable and usable despite the lack of GPU acceleration.

Updated. It is still daaaaamn slow in the Unmix Soundtrack function! I used a two-minute audio file from a TV series and it took a bang despite the fact that I have an Nvidia 4070TI selected for AI Rendering. Are you sure that the AI rendering is really using the GPU???
I’m on Windows 11 Pro 64 bit 23h2
Did you?
Hi,
the release note says the “full” GPU acceleration for Unmix Soundtrack and Unmix Song is not yet supported but will come in a later patch.
16GB VRAM - still no go. SL11 works great
The Clone Stamp tool is still flawed. It doesn’t replace the data.
The release notes say that it’s fixed, but it’s not.
Also the display preferences doesn’t apply until next launch .
Mac M2 Sequoia 15.5
Installed. Can’t open Nuendo 14 anymore. Uninstalled Spectralayers, Reinstalled previous version. Still won’t open the project. Reinstalled Nuendo 14.0.32, still same problem. On a deadline for QC.
So far, Project only opens if I disable third party plugins. But then I can’t check to see which tracks the ara is on.
Any way to disable ara extensions but not vst3 and still see where the ara extensions are so I can remove them ?
Says “application terminated …. nuendo14/Contents……..MacOS/araservicecom.steinberg.araservice”
always been like that for me on SL11
Just checked what’s going on with rendering on my AMD notebook.
Setting the preferences to GPU seems to create an illusion of GPU rendering, while in fact the CPU does nearly all of the job, and it was only due to my fast CPU (Ryzen AI 395Max+) that rendering went so smooth.
If I’m not mistaken, it seems GPU rendering is still generally not working as expected, no matter what platform is used.
It looks like the GPU rendering (on AMD, I don’t know about NVidia) caused so much trouble that the solution seems to be to simply disable it.
Also a solution.
Overlooked that passage in the version notes, thanks for the clarification.
From feedback of Nvidia users it seems it doesn’t yet work with NVidia cards either. I will check that as well occasionally.
P.S. Just checked with a passively cooled NVidia 3050 on my silent PC with preference set to GPU rendering:
GPU acceleration works fine with an NVIDIA card that has enough onboard VRAM, but that does not mean expecting that GPU usage should appear flatlined at 100% in Task Manager. It appears to use what it needs, when it needs it.
Does it have 8GB of VRAM? I had one with 6GB, which helped, but the recommendation for SL11+ is 8GB. If it’s the Palit 3050 6GB that I previously used, that’s a laptop chip with a massive heatsink.
Note also that, depending on settings, some AI models must still run on CPU. That’s what I understand by the statement in the release notes: “full GPU acceleration is not yet supported for Unmix Soundtrack and Unmix Song”.
@MrSoundman
Yes, I use the Palit with only 6Gb of RAM: that’s the fastest passive GPU I could find for my silent PC - or do you know a faster passive GPU meanwhile?
Anyways, GPU useage on cards with 8Gb or more should clearly go beyond some spikes and be the main rendering tool if selected in the preferences - it probably will work like that after a fix.
It seems your voice would be heard;
Now, Windows users take just as long as Mac users. Maybe not quite the solution you were hoping for, but here it is.
They’re working on it, and as soon as there’s a presentable solution, there will be an update. I’m sure the publishers are just as interested in it as we are.
Afterthoughts:
Sometimes it seems to me as if people have forgotten what a mammoth task it is to extract individual tracks from a completely mixed piece of music. Just a few years ago, this would have been considered impossible.
I believe that this technological marvel has somehow slipped into the background due to our own expectations. I find it only understandable that this pioneering work, which is laying the foundations for later technologies, deserves a little more of our respect.
New paths sometimes mean detours and occasionally require patience and our cooperation.
I am happy to be able to be a part of it, even if I sometimes wish I could have used the technology of the day after tomorrow yesterday.
Thanks, Robin
… good work
