Spectralayers 12 issues

my version (pro 12) showed issues the first 10 minutes of use in processing on a simple song…

It does not help speculating about the cause of this, I guess they are working very hard to find solutions. This is of course not deliberately and it will cost reliability.
It looks like most problems are with AMD processors, but they are there with Intel as well.
How many of you stopped using SL12 and went back to using SL11. I did, as it is unclear what goes well and what goes wrong… so no trust in the new version.

This overlapping problem is a total bummer and forces me to change my workflow to the worse. Steinberg, please fix this soon!

12 works fine on my win11 pro 24h2 +nvidia card systems.

If your question is directed at Mac users or amd users only…your question isn’t stated that way

@DosWasBest, my question was not directed to MAC users only. It was to all who visit this thread. My system as mentioned somewhere above is also win 11pro 24H2, Intel CPU and NVidia GPU and 12 does not work flawlessly like 11 does. But it is good to hear that there are cases without problems. :slightly_smiling_face:

I stayed on SL11.0.70 and opted to watch the teething of new SL12 release here on this forum.

I’m using SL every day, I can’t enter into teething mode at the moment.

It looks like the majority of complaints are related to unmixing music stems and I have made my views on unmixing of music known in other threads. I’ll wait until reports of unmixing music in SL works like we seem to all want it to (stems to solo). For now, SL remains a fantastic tool that I simply cannot be without.

When using phase correction in SL12 , it takes ages to suggest. Is that also able to be tied to GPU when that side is fixed ? Is the GPU acceleration across the board ? Right now the 5900X is struggling with unmix and phase correction. They both take a LONG time.

@LeVzi
Yes it seems at the moment that the lack of GPU acceleration is affecting the performance of SL right across the board. Its not only affecting PCs with AMD gpus but also its effecting mine with a Nvidia GTX 3060ti.To make SL in ARA mode more usable until they release the fix ive had to make the spectrum display area alot smaller as the redraw rate is considerably slower.Seems like SL is not using any hardware acceleration at all.Real time processing with any of the modules is virtually impossible so its quicker to just apply the process and then undo it before re-tweeking the settings.Anyway SL might but running abit slow but im still able to use it.

It has stopped crashing Cubase 14 now . Which is weird cos it was for a while, then just stopped. Now it opens fine. No clue why or what changed. And I hadn’t updated anything either.

Not complaining, just a very strange occurance !

I wish I could offer something ‘helpful’. I’m just chiming in with my experience thus far since I have an all AMD setup like some others in the thread. 3900XT with a 6600..

Summary

I’m on a 3900XT with an XFX 210 RX6600 (66XL8L I think it’s an 8GB GDDR6 card?)
Motherboard is an X570 based ROG Crosshair VIII Hero by ASUS.
Audio interface is a pair of old M-Audio Delta 1010 via PCI>PCIe bridge.

This is my first go with Spectral Layer’s 12 as I type this.

So far I've only tried a few things with these settings (AI Processing on Auto, Balanced setting on unmixes):

Seems to be OK so far in stand alone with a flac that’s a little under 5min. It’s a Styx track, so that gives some idea as the type/complexity of the mix.
Vocal with backup vocals, several guitars, both acoustic and electric, organ, drums.

It seems to be using all of the 12 cores (Activity on all 24 threads). Sometimes the GPU was used pretty heavily/consistently, sometimes not not at all, and sometimes only in very short spikes.

The first big unmix-song took about as long as the song would take to play in real time. It didn’t seem to use GPU much.

The more I do the faster it gets with subsequent unmixes. After the initial song unmix, breaking things down further are taking well under 1 minute for the entire 5ish minute track. It seemed to favor the CPU for harmonically rich unmixes (vocals, guitars, etc), while the GPU got heavy use unmixing the drums.

I’m really new to this. Pretty soon after I purchased 11 and installed it I got a notice that my grace period covers 12. I have both installed but haven’t had a chance to ‘compare’ the two versions.

Sl Pro 12 failed to download and install with SDA on Windows 10 machine. Saw “corrupted file” message after manually double clicking the install file.

Deleted the downloaded files and tried SDA a second time and saw the same error.

I hope that Steinberg is NOT using AI for software development tasks. This is starting to feel like the recent increase is MS problems.

I had the same problem. Not fun!

There are so many bugs and flaws in this version 12.0.0, which seem highly unlikely for an experianced developer alone. It seems plausible, that AI assistend coding was at work here. But, of course, we don’t know for sure. It’s just a hypothesis.
This is, imho, one of the worst releases of proprietary software for years. Even Microsoft has not realeased such (technically, not conceptually - SL is an amazing piece of software in itself) crab in the last decade or so,

I have a crash in Cubase 14.30 and also in 14.0.10.144, when I bind SpectraLayers Pro 12(Build 421) over ARA. The cause seems to be a problem with the Qt-Framework (6.8.1) and the macOS Accessibility subsystem that is activated despite disabled to-system.

What glitch in ARA- mode are you getting the unmix drums on my setup is working fine?

Cubase crashed with an error message and immediately shut down after pressing the OK button, saving wasn’t possible.
Are you on AMD or NVidia?

@Jonas2021
sorry i should of put my specs after the message.I only unmixed about a 25 second section of the drum track but all drums unmixed fine on every attempt.Of coarse no GPU acceleration would have been used but like ive said before things seem to be working fine but just not as fast. Why dont you try unmixing a small section of the drum track and see what happens.
