Steinberg Activation Manager "Sign In" not working

The “Sign In” button on Steinberg Activation Manager isn’t working. When I click on it my web browser doesn’t open so I can’t sign in and therefore cannot use any software. I have changed my default web browser from Safari to Chrome to Firefox to Edge but the problem persists. This has happened on both my desktop and my laptop where previously I had no issues in using SAM.

I have reinstalled SAM and also reinstalled the Download Manager to no avail. In the Help Center, Steinberg have flagged up a problem since updating a security certificate on December 17th and have offered a temporary solution but this solution didn’t work for me. Admittedly the article says this problem only affects MacOS Mojave and older which should preclude me as I’m running Catalina but the problem seems to be exactly the same as what I’m experiencing and has also only began in the last 10 days or so.

I have opened a support ticket but given the time of year I’m not holding my breath for a quick response.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? Any and all help much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Make sure, there is no antivirus or firewall, which would block the communication.

Hi Martin,

I don’t have any firewalls or antivirus software installed on my computer.

I got the same problem.

Hi @Nilved
could you open SAM, go into the top-right menu, create a Diagnostic Report and send it to me? The logs might give a hint about what’s going wrong…

Hi @SKnapp,

Zip file attached. Thanks!

You mentioned that you already tried the workaround provided in the help center? Were you able to reach https://pathfinder.mb.steinberg.net/ in Safari?

Yes previously I tried entering that in Safari’s address bar as per instructions on the Steinberg Help page (forum won’t let me post the link) and it shows a “Whitelabel Error Page” but that didn’t solved the problem.

Tried it again by clicking on your link above but it also hasn’t worked.

Interesting. I just tried that out myself on a macOS 10.15 system and I’m running into the same issue… it seems like there might be another problem after changing the certificate. We need to investigate this. As it is holiday season you probably understand that there are limited resources right now to address this topic but I will try to find out the root of the problem.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Ahh nevermind. I sorted this out with the workaround in the help center. But this was weird, because as you already correctly mentioned, this should only be a problem on macOS 10.14.

Ok, so does that mean the help center workaround should work for me? Have I done something wrong in trying it? Should I try it again?

What do you see when you visit the link I posted in Safari? You should see a page with the caption “Whitelabel Error Page”.

Yes that’s exactly what I see. Is that what I should be seeing?

Yes that’s expected. Let me check some things and I get back to you.

Hi @electrogenetics
did you already try to visit https://pathfinder.mb.steinberg.net/ in Safari? What do you see when you go to that address?

I think, I have the same problem. Here’s my diagnostic file

I am having the same problem. My Download Assistant does not work and the SAM is also not connecting. My guess is there is something bigger going on. It is frustrating, I just purchased 14. I was able to download 14 outside of the Download Assistant. I should also note that 14 is not showing up when I go to my products. Something is going on with their authentication services on the backend. This is Mac Sequoia 15.2 .

I had a few weeks off work to get projects finished but not been able to login for the whole time, back in work on Thursday.
